Looking to upgrade your home but not do all the work yourself? Hiring a designer may be a great route for you! In our experience, here are some things to keep in mind when starting your journey of working with a designer:⁠
⁠
1. Budget- When establishing a budget give your designer specifics. Providing a range is good but make sure you communicate the absolute max you can spend. Budget is a BIG deal which is why we will be talking about it in an upcoming post. Stay tuned...⁠

2. Pick a style and stick with it - It is no surprise but there are a lot of styles and aesthetics to choose from. It is common for a homeowner to want to change direction in the middle of a project. Mainly because they see the unfinished project and start thinking of other ideas. Choosing your design direction will save you time and money. ⁠

3. Be Flexible - We like to say that interior design is like war. You can plan the path of action but when it comes to game time, the unexpected will happen. The same happens in this industry. Maybe a piece of furniture doesn't arrive in time, or some tools/ equipment stop working, or an emergency arises. Life happens and the course of action changes. As a homeowner, we know it's disappointing when things do not flow perfectly. Any great designer feels that pressure and disappointment too. Trust the process because at the end of the day the outcome will be worth it!

At Hyssop we are big fans of color throughout the home, but let us say this... NEVER underestimate the power of a monochromatic bedroom! This room varies in shades of white, greys, and mixes all kinds of texture. Isn't it dreamy?! ☁✨🌙

Color 🎨 It is a BIG deal and such a powerful tool. Colors can draw out emotion and set the atmosphere for any room. At the same time using color can be daunting. Even more daunting than using color... Color. Matching. What colors can go together and what ones shouldn't?⁠⁠

Here is a little advice. If you want color, just DO IT. When choosing what color to go with, walk into your closet and see what colors you like wearing. If you feel confident wearing lime green, then you will feel confident living in it. ⁠⁠

If you want to know what other colors compliment your bold color choices, look at the world around you. Two places of inspiration for us are nature, Hermes scarves, and architecture. These inspos can help you gain the confidence to finally add that bold paint to your dining room, entry hallway, or bathroom.⁠⁠

We love picture #5! This was my cousin Kathryn’s wedding and her bouquet was absolutely stunning. Not to mention, all the ladies (Jeannie, my mother, on the right. My Aunt Kate on the left) are simply beautiful!

So what is Hyssop? It is an herb that has been used for thousands of years in cultures ranging from the ancient Egyptians to the Roman empire. Hyssop is known for its medicinal properties and is associated with safety.⁠

Shouldn't your home (or any place you spend a lot of time in) be a place of healing, peace and protection? Hyssop couldn't be a more fitting symbol for what our Design Studio stands for 🖤⁠

Hyssop Home Designs has ✨ OFFICIALLY ✨ launched! For those who are new, here is a little about ourselves!

We are Tim and Cynthia Owen ( and of course, can't forget our feline sidekick, our hairless wonder, Eugene 🐾) and we are based in Tampa, FL. Back in 2018, my mother Jeannie, passed away after a long battle with cancer. When she passed she left to us her condo, and that is where this story really begins.

My mother's dream was to remodel her condo but due to her illness she was never healthy enough to take on that project. So Tim and I decided to fulfill her dream by renovating! That project showed us two things:

1. Your home isn't just a place to live. It's where life happens. It also should be a peaceful place where you should be able to come to and heal from the troubles of life. Not only that but in your home you should feel safe to be yourself!

And 2. we realized that we wanted to make peaceful, safe homes for others sooooo.... Here we are!

Hyssop Home Design's goal is to create spaces, whether it is a house, an office, or a retail location, and make it THE place to be. We are beyond happy to have you join us in this journey!
