Let's talk paper-face mounted tile vs. mesh-mounted tile!

Paper-face mounted tile has a paper sheet on the front that holds the tiles in pattern. You press it face-down into thinset, let it cure for 20–30 min, wet the paper, and peel it off. That's it.

Mesh-mounted tile has a fiberglass mesh on the back that stays permanently in the mortar.

So why do experienced tile setters prefer paper-face?
✔️ Better thinset coverage — fuller contact behind each tile
✔️ Less lippage — tiles sit flatter and more level
✔️ Easier back-buttering — nothing blocking the back of the tile
✔️ Cleaner grout joints — no mesh migrating into the lines

Mesh is a great choice for a lot of projects - fast, flexible, and easy to handle.

When you're tiling floors, wet areas, or glass tile, paper-face is the upgrade that ensures everything holds up beautifully long-term
