He lives next to the piano and nearby the game table set with equally oversized chess pieces. The board we keep inside a cabinet, the pieces look like little sculptures and needed some time in the sun.
I love how Earnest Trova’s life size caricature of the midcentury architect, Robert Elkington seems to be staring at the chess table in both concentration and utter confusion because, same, Mr. Elkington. Same.

My gateway drug.

Furniture design was certainly that for me. I have a tendency to get a certain form and weight stuck in my head. That fact, coupled with an inability to accept less than the vision meant I had to find a way… over and over and over again.

My obsessions have also lead me to develop close friendships with craftsmen around the world who share in my love of possibility. It’s their brilliant minds and hands that make what I design into something real.

The skylight had to be whisper quiet; crowning a magnificent burl wood staircase that is sculpture, providing its function as a side gig, it had to melt away. It had to be about the natural light, not about how it was captured.

Never is the road from concept to completion a smooth road, but here is a flawless example of the exception that proves that rule.

The ex*****on of this design was nothing short of perfection. The warm plaster curves are exact interpretations of my dream from inception; the ceiling seemingly melts into the sky to wash the stairs in natural light.

The craftsmen brought into our orbit by our masterful builder, have my gratitude and respect tenfold.

We see you Coco Chanel 🍄

Weekend views. My favorite mushroom stools, upholstered in all things delicious by the one and only are a constant here at home in St. Louis. Every size imaginable…perpetually scattered everywhere for impromptu seating and for making my heart happy too.
Just when I thought I may have gone a bit too far…the recent couture show gave me the poetic license I needed. Let the mushrooms multiply and surround yourself with the people and the things that inspire you.

Mountain Top Drama

I love story telling through design. What first drew me to this 8 foot tall cast iron polychrome fixture was its massive size and extreme visual weight. Finding something that could hold its own against the otherworldly views of the mountain range was an exhausting search. When I was given the provenance of the fixture along with photographs of it hanging inside a bank lobby… I knew I had found the perfect fixture. I felt it was an immediate nod to Butch Cassidy, one of Telluride’s most famous characters from its wildly colorful past.

The shades… when it comes to drama,
more is more.

I’ll never be swayed.

I’ll love an ivy covered anything forever. Watching the fig ivy do it’s s thing at our beloved project is
wildly satisfying.
In my process, landscape design runs concurrently with architectural planning and interiors. The thought of them as separate in process is maddening to me.
We designed this secondary entrance with equal consideration given to the architecture and garden design at exactly the same time and the result is, as I said…wildly satisfying.
