Texture is something you feel before you see it.

Wood, stone, wool, plaster. When the materials are chosen for how they make you feel walking in, not just how they photograph, a room stops being decorated and starts being lived in.

This is what I mean by a sensory palette. Every surface is a decision.

Some pieces cannot be bought. They have to be designed and built.

This bar was made to meet the exact requirements of a historic building. No catalog was going to solve it. So I designed it, had it fabricated to spec, and walked it through the historic approval process.

When a home sits in a protected district, the rules are not an obstacle. They are a design parameter I already know how to work inside.

Every room needs a few pieces only you can have.

About 80 percent of a home I design is new and custom. The other 20 percent is soul. Antiques. Vintage textiles. The chair that was your grandmother's. The thing you found at a market and could not leave behind.

That 20 percent is the difference between a home and a showroom.

A room should feel like it could not have turned out any other way.

That is what I am after on every project. Not a look I impose, but a space that reads as inevitable once you are standing in it.

Wallpaper that sets the tone without asking for attention. Scale that fits the room instead of fighting it.
Less is more. Pattern and texture do the rest.
