π¨ **Something exciting is about to begin...**
Over the next several weeks, I'll be taking you behind the scenes of one of the most rewarding projects I've had the opportunity to be part of.
The **D.D. Doll House** in Marshall, Illinois, built in **1879** and recognized as a local landmark, is currently undergoing restoration. As part of that effort, a new carriage house is being built to complement the original home's beautiful Italianate Victorian architecture.
I'm honored to be contributing to this project by reverse engineering and precision machining decorative architectural components based on details from the original home.
It all starts with **one original corbel** and **one original modillion**βboth nearly 150 years old.
Using 3D Modeling Software, VCarve Pro, and CNC machining, I'll digitally recreate these original architectural details before producing precision-machined components from **Accoya**. Those components will ultimately become:
β’ **24 custom corbels**
β’ **200 custom modillions**
Each component is carefully engineered for strength and longevity, including laminated construction and precision alignment features. Once machined, the components will be passed along to a local woodworking shop Kostyo Woodworking I'm working with for assembly, sanding, and primer. From there, the completed components will be supplied to the restoration contractor for the new carriage house.

Projects like this are why I enjoy what I do. They combine engineering, woodworking, and modern manufacturing to help carry the character and craftsmanship of historic architecture into something new.
