Chef Rishi Kumar understands this better than most. From Singapore to southern France to the kitchens of Chicago, his career has been shaped by the belief that cooking is connection. At Mariela, you see it in everything he does: the energy in the kitchen, the laughter with his team, the precision of a final check before a plate leaves the pass.

Months before Mariela opened, Rishi selected our Athena plates for his tabletop. There was no logo yet, no finalized brand identity. Then the brand team presented Mariela’s logo, featuring the same oceanic wave pattern that adorns the rim of Athena. Call it kismet. Some partnerships are just meant to be.

Every dish at Mariela is served on Ariane’s Cruise Collection. Athena, Palma, and Amalfi, porcelain designed to honor what’s on it, at a table built to bring people together.

We’re proud to welcome Chef Rishi Kumar to the Ariane Global Ambassador family.

A James Beard Award Semi-Finalist and Eater Chef of the Year, Rishi leads two of Chicago’s most compelling dining rooms: Mirra and the newly opened Mariela at the iconic Staypineapple in downtown Chicago. His path runs from Singapore to the Culinary Institute of America, through Michelin-starred kitchens in southern France, and years alongside Chef Rick Bayless at Topolobampo, where he helped support the team through its James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant recognition.

Mariela is built around global coastal cuisine, drawing from the shorelines and port cities that shaped Rishi’s culinary perspective. It made our Cruise Collection a natural fit. Athena, Palma, and Amalfi carry that same Mediterranean warmth and coastal character, giving every dish a sense of place before the first bite. Paired with our Maverick cutlery line, the tabletop at Mariela reflects exactly what Rishi brings to the kitchen: global perspective, regional depth, intentional craft.
