The house that Facebook marketplace built! I’ve been working in the kitchen a little bit to neutralize the ugly. Our kitchen was remodeled in 1986 and it shows, so I’ve tried doing a few things to spruce it up and give it a bit of an older look. My counters are the little white ceramic tile with wedgewood blue grout that was very popular in the late 80s. I’m going to guess, but I can stay with almost complete certainty that this was definitely a country goose kitchen at one point in time. By now the counter had served its purpose and needs to be replaced. If you’ve ever had grouted countertops, it’s super annoying! So for now I brought in a beautiful pink marble slab that was from a coffee table I had purchased off of marketplace. I didn’t know what I was going to do with it exactly but for now, I thought I might as well bring it and put it on the peninsula part of our kitchen. I actually have several 5 foot marble slabs from an antique kitchen that I bought off of marketplace a few years ago. They are sitting in my old house parts area of my shop patiently waiting for the remodel. But for now I will enjoy this fun pink one.

This little vintage toaster does not equally bring joy to everyone in the household. I really think this is the cutest little toaster, and I’ve had it for years. However, my children much prefer one that toasts both sides at the same time and most importantly automatically stops. We’ve had a lot of burnt toast in this house. I will admit.

I haven’t made this in a long while because I burned everybody out of it. I tend to repeat things often and then not make it for years but then eventually circle back to it. But Dutch babies is one of my favorite things to make because it uses up a lot of the extra eggs we have and it’s extremely quick. What’s your favorite quick meal?

I planted this over 5 years ago and I finally have a decent amount of roses. I nearly gave up and moved it this Spring but I couldn’t really find a better spot for it so I left it be and it finally produced after all. Roses like the heat but are not huge fans of the hot wind we have here which makes it tricky. I planted several in my front yard because it’s protected a bit from the wind but we have a giant cedar tree and while it keeps the house cooler in the summer it unfortunately blocks out a lot of the sun making flower growing tricky. Now I know it’s not a giant beast of a rose bush yet but there seems to be a bit of hope that maybe in a few more years it will be. David Austin Roses are my favorite!

Was it better before, maybe… I’m still not even quite sure six years later. I wanted to see that beautiful exposed brick but it turns out it was a pretty poor brick laying job but it is what it is and the damage is done. I think I still like it exposed even if it’s a bit off.

I do however like this new little fridge I just got. That last fridge was really hanging on a lot longer than I had expected. I wanted a new one for a long time, but was just trying to be content with what we had that worked. I hate shopping for appliances, I feel like everything is outrageously priced and breaks within a few years. Like the dryer we bought a few years ago that we’ve already had to replace parts on it three times 😭 I had bought the same fridge model at my last house and I saw it pop-up on marketplace for next to nothing so I decided to take a chance on it. It might not be the Classic Big Chill fridge of my dreams (I know it’s just a fridge, but they are so gorgeous) but it was practically free and you can’t beat that. On a side note I love this little icebox next to it that was my great grandparents.

A certain sweet baby is making it a little bit more difficult for me to spend as much time in the kitchen, but I would certainly prefer to hold him anyway. So I’m not really doing much canning if probably any this year but I have more than I know what to do with in terms of apricots and it could be that we have none next year so I’m trying to take advantage of it. Some years we have thousands a couple years ago I only had three on the whole tree. Instead of canning and making jams and such, I’m just popping them in the freezer, that way I will have what I need for pies, tarts and a little bit of apricot baby food for the baby in a few months. I know you’re supposed to blanch apricots and then pack them with a syrup for juice, but I have found that this works better. I find that they get a little soggy when I do those things and in years past they didn’t discolor on me without juice packing them. I cut up in smaller pieces for smoothies and such but other than that this is about as easy as it gets.
