Schwerdt Design Group

Schwerdt Design Group SDG was founded in 1990 by Greg Schwerdt with the goal of building better community through innovative design and lasting partnerships.

SDG is a full service architecture, interiors, and planning firm with offices in both Topeka, KS, Kansas City, MO, and Oklahoma City, OK. At SDG, we listen carefully to our clients to learn what will help them develop the most comprehensive and effective solutions to their specific needs. In order to provide the highest quality service to our clients, a Senior Project Manager is involved in every

project. This allows SDG to provide our clients the most experienced architects who have a history of creating functional, innovative, and inspiring spaces. In addition, our team continually engages in technical research and professional development to remain on the leading edge of our profession.

This afternoon, part of the SDG team attended the Drake Development groundbreaking for Oldham Village + East Village! This transformative project in Lee’s Summit will create new growth and opportunities for the community for years to come.

Our very own Michael Scott had the opportunity to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony after being involved with the site planning and layout since day one. The SDG team has also been designing the core & shell for multiple retail businesses that will be joining the development.

We are excited to see this project officially getting underway and can’t wait to watch the vision come to life!

The custom wood glulam beams have officially been installed at the new Mother Teresa Catholic Church in Topeka!

These massive beams were specifically designed and fabricated for this project, with each one weighing close to 5,000 pounds. Glulam (glue-laminated timber) beams are created by bonding layers of wood together under intense pressure, allowing them to achieve both incredible strength and the beautiful curved architectural form seen in the church design.

We are thankful for our construction team at KBS Constructors for their amazing work in the project!

The Schwerdt Stops made another appearance at the annual Boys & Girls Club of Topeka Kickball Tournament!

While we may not have come away with the championship title this year, our team had a great time connecting outside the office while supporting a cause that means so much to our community.

We are proud to support the Boys & Girls Club of Topeka and the incredible impact they continue to make. It is always an honor to participate in events that bring people together for such a meaningful mission.

Project Spotlight:

This week, we’re highlighting a project that means so much to our team: Homestead Assisted Living & Memory Care in Creston, Iowa.

Homestead Assisted Living is part of the Midwest Health network of senior care facilities. In April of 2024, their community faced an incredibly difficult moment when severe thunderstorms and tornadoes caused extensive damage to the building. Windows were broken, sections of the structure were torn away, and multiple areas throughout the facility were impacted. While we are so grateful that everyone remained safe, residents were displaced and had to relocate to live with family or in other nearby facilities.

Due to the severity of the damage, the decision was made to fully rebuild.

What followed was an 18 month journey of dedication, resilience, and purpose. From multiple site visits to countless hours of collaboration, this project was more than just construction. It was about restoring a place people call home.

We are proud to share that the new Homestead of Creston was completed in December 2025, and every bit of effort along the way was worth it.

Projects like this remind us why we do what we do.

We couldn’t have been happier to catch up with Debbie at the morning coffee hosted by Olathe Chamber of Commerce at Bloom Senior Living!

Bloom Senior Living is a project we completed over 10 years ago, so it was especially exciting to see the space still serving the community and being used for events like this.

We’d also like to thank the Olathe Chamber for welcoming us as a member. We’re looking forward to more events like this and continuing to build relationships in the communities we serve!

What have we been up to lately?

Besides working on projects, our SDG team has been staying busy with some great activities outside the office!

📸 1 & 2: Our KC team attended a Kansas City Futures event — a networking organization that brings together architects, engineers, contractors, and real estate professionals to collaborate on sustainable and equitable solutions for Kansas City.

📸 3: We welcomed Chris Garcia from Assa Abloy for a Lunch & Learn to share updates on many of their locking systems, doors, and hardware.

📸 4: Tyson Gottwald attended a Lee’s Summit Chamber event at Saint Luke’s Surgicenter where he even got to try out their new Da Vinci surgery machine (with supervision, of course!).

📸 5: In February, Molly Comstock was recognized on the State House of Representatives floor for YP Day at the Capitol. Molly serves on the Forge Young Talent Board as the Advocacy Chair, and we’re proud to support an organization that invests in young professionals in our company and the Topeka community.

📸 6: Kaleena Montellano is now an official member of the Sales and Marketing Executives of Topeka — congratulations, Kaleena!

📸 7: Our office recently toured a building we’re remodeling. It’s exciting to see the progress and imagine the final result coming to life.

📸 8: And as always… Mike Hampton is one of the busiest guys we know!

Always learning, connecting, and supporting our communities.

Mike Hampton, Emily Lang and Colton Thompson are at the K-State Design Expo today from 10am-3pm!

Come stop by and learn more about opportunities at SDG!

Fun Fact: This design expo is how we found Colton Thompson. He started as an intern and is now a full time great designer! You never know where the expo will take you!

Last week, some of our team members had the honor of attending the Mardi Gras Unmasked 2026 Lee’s Summit Chamber Gala!

The Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce brought the community together to celebrate a year full of growth, progress, and meaningful moments. The evening supported the Chamber’s initiatives and raised funds for student scholarships, investing right back into the future of Lee’s Summit.

It was a night filled with energy, connection, and plenty of celebration. We are grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for one another and keep moving forward together!
