Today we mourn the passing of Lou Holtz. Our prayers go out to his family, friends, and former players. Coach Holtz was the first to hang the now famous "Play Like a Champion Today" sign in the ND locker room. His words and his example can inspire all of us to play like a champion today and every day. A clever coworker made this sign for me a few years ago and hung it over the stairs leading to our office.

Today we were on site with our good friend, photographer Ken Doll, capturing images of our recently completed remodel of SLI’s Transitional Independent Living home. (Project coming to our website soon.)

The house is fully decorated and ready for the holidays. This beautiful tree is a perfect reminder that the Festival of Trees kicks off today at Fairlawn Plaza! Be sure to stop by between now and December 6 (closed Thanksgiving) to view all the beautifully decorated trees and get into the holiday spirit.

You can bid to make a favorite tree your own, explore a variety of silent auction items, and pick up some sweet holiday treats. And don’t forget to get your ticket for Festival Soirée on Friday evening, December 5.

This week, SLI - Serving people with intellectual disabilities. celebrated the ribbon-cutting, held with the Greater Topeka Partnership, for the newly remodeled group residence serving individuals with IDD.

Originally built over 40 years ago as a 10-person group home, the residence has been transformed into five individual apartments, each with its own kitchenette, living area, accessible restroom, and bedroom; plus community living spaces. This updated model supports SLI’s mission to provide clients with opportunities for transitional independent living.

Civium Architects is proud to have partnered once again with SLI to help bring their vision to life.

Many of the great cathedrals and churches of Europe took centuries and generations to complete. And once “finished,” few remained stagnant spaces, enriched with additional devotional artwork, chapels, and monuments added by each successive generation of faithful. Now, in at least one sense, the Immaculata is like the great churches of our past.

SLI's Festival of Trees opens today!

Civium is proud to be a Red Ribbon level sponsor of the Festival of Trees once again this year. Our Senior Interior Designer, Ericka, along with her son, Garrett, had the special task of judging all 59 festive entries. They had a fantastic time walking through the enchanting forest of beautifully decorated trees!

The Festival of Trees is now open to the public, running from November 26 to December 7, daily from 10 AM to 6 PM (closed on Thanksgiving). This festive event is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the seasonal spirit and participate in the bidding for trees, wreaths, and silent auction items.

We are thrilled to share that Benedictine College graduate, Luke Seymour, has been interning with us this summer at Civium! Luke is currently studying to complete his Masters in Architecture degree at Catholic University in Washington DC. This summer he has been assisting with construction documents, field measuring, and even sketching a perspective for a client presentation here at Civium. Luke’s dedication and enthusiasm for architecture have been evident in all his work. We are excited to see the great things he will continue to achieve in his studies and future career.

It is hard to believe one year has passed already! May 3, 2023, was a truly memorable day and we enjoyed being part of it. We have also enjoyed sharing the beauty and grandeur of the Immaculata throughout this past year, leading several tours of the new church and being featured in Traditional Building Magazine's annual ecclesiastic design issue.
