25 years of talent, dedication, and timeless design.

This month, we are celebrating Senior Designer Rachel Hartung and an incredible milestone: 25 years with Jones-Keena & Co. What began as a college internship has grown into a remarkable career filled with beautiful projects, treasured client relationships, and lasting contributions to our firm.

Over the years, Rachel has contributed to projects throughout Michigan and beyond, including homes in New York and South Carolina. Her work has been featured in publications including Traditional Home, Detroit Design, Great Lakes By Design, and Michigan Blue.

Rachel’s design philosophy reflects what has always defined great interiors: livable elegance. While design trends have evolved over the past 25 years, she believes timeless elements never go out of style - white kitchens, crisp white trim, classic details, and thoughtfully layered spaces designed for real everyday living.

When asked what keeps her inspired after all these years, Rachel shared that seeing happy clients and building meaningful relationships continues to be the most rewarding part of her work. She also credits the flexibility and support of J-K for helping her navigate life’s many chapters, including marriage and raising three children while building an accomplished design career.

And while install days are rarely chaotic, there was the unforgettable moment when she nearly fell off a client’s yacht boarding on a particularly windy day.

Rachel’s advice to young designers just starting out: “Soak it up, take notes, stay organized. Design is hard work, it is not always glamorous.”

Rachel, thank you for your creativity, professionalism, loyalty, and the countless beautiful homes you have helped create over the last 25 years. We are so grateful to celebrate this milestone with you.

A tremendous honor. Lucy is grateful and humbled to be recognized as the inaugural Design Icon. Thank you to Detroit Design Magazine for celebrating her journey.

This recognition is made all the more special by the incredible clients and collaborators we have had the privilege to work with.

This year, the Detroit Design Awards, Presented By Leonardo’s Marble & Granite, Inc., introduces the inaugural Design Icon Award, honoring a visionary whose influence has left a lasting mark on the design world.

We are proud to celebrate our first honoree, Lucy Earl, Principal of Jones-Keena & Co.. With more than five decades in the Detroit design community, Lucy has built a remarkable career spanning early retail ventures to leadership roles in corporate design.

As co-founder of Jones-Keena & Co., she has led the firm for more than 35 years, establishing one of Michigan’s most respected interior design firms.

Her work reflects a deeply personal approach to design and has been featured in national and regional publications. Today, her firm serves a highly discerning clientele, with relationships that span multiple generations.

This special presentation will be one of the most meaningful moments of the evening. Join us as we celebrate Lucy’s extraordinary legacy live on stage.
