Who doesn’t appreciate advertising on a piece of stoneware ? There is something about it that draws my attention ! During the 1800’s stoneware was a necessary part of the American Westward expansion mainly for storing food items, also during prohibition for moonshine. As industrialization grew in England and the US , stoneware became common for displaying company names, often using transfer printed designs. At the turn of the century companies used advertising jugs, pots, and jars as point of sale tools in shops and pubs. They were also given away with products such as liquor, food, and toiletries as a way of durable advertising. Besides being durable, they were reusable and today collectible. 📖✏️ Throwback Thursday ✏️📖

Class is in session... 1895 style! This photo shows Warrenton's old grade school as it stood between Oak Street and the railroad tracks more than a century ago. Just imagine students heading to class while trains rumbled nearby- talk about a noisy recess bell!

As Warrenton continued to grow, so did the number of young scholars. By 1912- 1913, the original school had simply outgrown its space. The building was torn down, the high spot it sat on was leveled, and a new school was built just a little west of the original location to make room for even more students.

From slate boards and wooden desks to today's classrooms , it's amazing to see how education in our community has evolved over the years.

History buffs- we're curious! Do you know someone who attended school in one of Warrenton's early buildings, or do you have old school photos tucked away somewhere? Share them with us in the comments!

We are ready for spring and to see familiar faces ! April 18th we will be in Herman sharing space with other antique loving folks ! Come by and see us ! Enjoy all the venues for the day, have some lunch , visit the local wineries, and just enjoy beautiful Herman and its people.

Anyone else appreciate the old mercantile advertising plates and bowls ? They almost tell a story all on their own ! Especially like the local ones. 🥰
