The best mistake we ever made won first place. 🤍

This kitchen received first place at the ASID Arizona South Design Excellence Awards, and there’s a little story behind one of my favorite details.

When the cabinet doors arrived in gloss rather than the matte finish we had planned, we were ready to reorder them. But my clients asked us to wait because they actually liked the glossy finish better. It turns out, so did I.

Paired with the scalloped walnut, the glossy finish brought out a beautiful warmth and subtle gold hue. We both loved how it looked in the space, so we kept it. Something we were ready to change became one of our favorite parts of the kitchen.

This was my first time entering the awards, and I almost talked myself out of it. Seeing this kitchen receive first place has been such a special experience, and I’m so glad I decided to submit it.

A private preview of a secret space above the Legion bar in Bisbee. Brick, fluted glass, a mahogany bar, iron chandeliers, and a wood-burning fireplace. The kind of room that makes you want a second home just to live in it.

I’ve always loved Dolly. The hair, the humor, the talent… but mostly the way she seemed to know exactly who she is. 💙

She also happened to give pretty great advice.

“Find out who you are and do it on purpose” might be my favorite. In design and in life, I think there’s something to be said for knowing what you love, trusting your instincts and being brave enough to go for it.
