I will keep trying to get this Kickstarter funded to the end (barreling towards me on May 30th!!)

…Because I am committed to using my time on this planet for something I feel called to contribute.

…Because none of us know how much time we have left.

…Because everyone reading this trades in any number of currencies (money, flexibility, esteem, knowledge, labor, attention, time, creativity, care) usually all in an effort to earn more meaning, purpose, connection and peace.

I will keep working to fund this Kickstarter project because I am called to help people with the everyday efforts they make towards finding meaning, purpose, connection and peace.

…Because I believe creativity is our birthright and gift as humans, but somehow most of us picked up the crazy idea that if “I can’t draw a stick figure” then we are not creative.

Fun fact: one of my first jobs at age 15 was as a lifeguard at the Twisp Pool.

I couldn’t drive yet so would ride my bike into town, teach swim lessons, take my turn in the lifeguard chair, then get dropped off later to scoop ice cream at Sheri’s Sweet Shoppe.

Feels like a full circle moment to have the opportunity to paint the Friends of the Pool logo on the front doors of the very same pool. Now I’m getting ready to bring my own kids for swim lessons, and looking forward to spending plenty of time in the water this year.

Thanks to for a great collaboration and all their work to keep the pool open and keep swimming in the Methow Valley!

19/100 Days of Beauty, Hope and Kindness

A simple story today— full of delight.

One fall when I was maybe a sophomore or junior in college, I was walking out of a packed lecture hall after class. The sun was peeking out from behind the clouds, the air was delicious, and the trees were dressed in their most colorful robes.

I looked up— I almost couldn’t help it— and noticed the leaves swirling and drifting down from the branches. A particular single leaf caught my attention.

There was nothing special about this leaf —nothing different or remarkable— yet my eyes fixed on it as it floated down… directly towards me.

The leaf was naturally drifting in the breeze, but somehow also targeted and clearly falling… right towards me. It was as if the leaf was magnetized somehow to me, so that as it fell, I was able to reach effortlessly, without changing course, and pluck it calmly out of the air.

It was uncanny enough that the classmate I had been walking with gave me a wide eyed look. How had that just happened?!

It’s a delightful memory for sure but what is most fun is that ever since that happened, I pay a little closer attention to falling leaves.

And the strange thing is, that same personal leaf delivery— the mysterious magnetic attraction between a tiny human and an even tinier leaf— happens to me now nearly every fall.

It’s not foolproof. There have been years that I make it to winter and realize I’ve hardly noticed any leaves, let alone personal leaf buddies flying through the air.

But it happens more often than not— in a driveway. On a trail. And in this case on the balcony of a restaurant where I took a phone meeting outdoors. I sat with my notebook open, pen ready to catch important thoughts, ideas or inspiration.

But what I caught instead was an early fall leaf that positioned itself so centrally, so singularly that I couldn’t miss it. And it definitely felt like it was intended just for me.

My guess is there’s a leaf coming your way too. 🍁🍂🍃
