April Newsletter...
It’s been two years since I opened this craft thrift shop. As I review the past two years, I realize, once again, how wonderful handcrafters are. Even in the quiet winter months your donations of time and materials have blessed others in the community. Quilts have been made for cancer patients and shut ins. Clothing protectors have been made for residents at the Veterans’ Home. Hats and mittens have been made for school children.
When envisioning this craft shop, I wanted a place to inspire creativity, provide a local resource for quality craft supplies, and help connect with those in our community who needed encouragement. With your purchases you have provided gas cards for individuals providing transportation for the elderly, vehicle repairs for a widower, and resources for a local women’s home for those coming out of addiction/prostitution.
The past year has been filled with many personal challenges and I have found it difficult to be available for shop coverage. My family has been extremely supportive and has often covered the shop hours so I could attend to the needs of loved ones, process through the grief of losing both parents, and deal with the residual issues that occur at such a time of loss. I have spent a great deal of time trying to determine how to move forward and where my priorities and energy should be focused. I realize that I can’t ‘do it all’ and must let something go. That something is the dream of the thrift store. I still believe that the vision of ABCC is vitally needed and important, but I cannot carry that vision forward without additional shop coverage, larger location for classes, and individuals able to provide the gifts and talents that I lack to make the business/community ‘project’ thrive.
With this decision made, the question of dispersing inventory comes to the forefront. If you have a community project or group that could use the crafting materials I have in stock, please contact me ( [email protected] or 607-386-9092). I will be donating any remaining items to non-profit organizations in the area.
This is a bittersweet decision. I will miss hearing of your latest projects and getting to know the customers who stop in. But at the same time, I look forward to making memories with my family, having time to pursue creative endeavors that I have neglected, and working in my garden(s).
THANK YOU for helping my dream come true over the past two years. You have been a part of my “Abundant Blessings”!
May you be Abundantly Blessed,
Linda
