Here’s a peek at the inspiration behind our new living room color.

The goal was for it to be primarily an evening retreat space - cosy, moody and have some old world charm. I drew inspiration from sailing ships, specifically tan bark sails and the corroded patina of salt worn hardware. I wanted a color that would go beautifully with this handmade sea foam sailboat we have and I love how sea foam green complements this deep aubergine.

This was a difficult color to select because it interacts directly with three other spaces in our house - the bathroom (green & blue), the staircase (taupe) and the dining room (white with red accents). We wanted a contrast between our brighter dining & kitchen space, and something that complemented the bathroom.

We had a number of samples to choose from and ultimately went with Preference Red paired with Green Blue on the mantle and a warm Joa’s white for the trim.

We are so pleased, the color is gorgeous, the Farrow and Ball paint has an intense depth of color, and the shade changes with the light throughout the day from a warm deep red to a cooler brighter purple brown.

We are taking on small-medium sized home renovation projects in the Midcoast in 2026! We’re offering interior design & general carpentry as a Design/Build team and we’re booking projects in the new year now.

Here’s some process shots of our bathroom renovation. This project was a full gut with the exception of keeping the original cast iron bathtub, exposing and finishing the original wood floors and maintaining some of the original trim. The layout needed to accommodate adding a bay changing table/ dresser with the relocation of the sink, and the addition of a stacking washer/dryer unit in the closet. The shower was fully retiled, replumbed, and a nook shelf was added. We designed and built a shaker peg rail, shelf and paneling. The closet door was removed and replaced with a curtain for easy access and ventilation for the washer/dryer and to soften the space. The oversized utility sink was reclaimed and adds some charm. The woodwork and paneling are painted in Caulk Green for an earthy and clean calm, paired with Blue-Green painted floors and Pointing on the walls. We sourced a beautiful antique marble top vanity that fits the space nicely and has counter space and storage.

After adding a baby, who is now a toddler to our family, this has became a hardworking room and the functionality upgrades to the space cannot be understated. Kids clothes and diapers are stored in the dresser, plus easy access to laundry is a great feature. We also included allocated space for kitty litter and a step stool at the sink.

We’d love to help you plan and build out your unique space to bring some added beauty and functionality to your home!

When choosing color for my daughter’s bedroom, I first thought of a pale pink which felt too classic ā€œgirl roomā€, then I considered a sunny pale green-toned yellow, which was beautiful in the morning light but too cool at night.

I had created a mood board of some of her things, and items I already gathered for her room - the color needed to be able to handle a cacophony of colorful items, as children’s rooms do, hits of bright red and deep greens, I wanted to have whimsy, warmth and cheerfulness.

I found my inspiration yesterday from this bright tomato orange and cream beer can, and realized a similar scheme was reflected in the creamy orange-toned papers we had been drawing on with bright orange and pink oil pastels. I’m now set on a cream with orange undertones, it will blend beautifully into the other warm toned whites of our house, and go well with the greens, pinks and reds we already have for her room’s furniture and textiles. If I get around to it, one day maybe I’ll paint a red-orange mural like the art on the can!

Now to select the exact shade: pictured are Tallow (top left) Farrow’s Cream (bottom left), Sandstone Lime Wash (middle) and Caprock & Adorn (middle right) from the new . I’m leaning towards the freshness of Tallow but I’d love to try out Alkemis’s new paint, and the non-toxic benefits make a lot of sense for a children’s space, so still undecided on the final selection.

Swipe for more inspiration for her room. This is just the beginning and is a work in progress, we still have to repair the plaster in her room before painting - I’ll share more as the process unfolds. šŸŽØ

I’ve been color consulting on an exciting new project - a home being built in Rockland, Maine. The roof shingle I selected is on its way up, next is siding and trim in a calm and traditional palette of steel blue-greys and clean whites. It’s amazing to see it happen in real time, and I’m excited to get into the interior selections next.

This is a spec house and will be going on the market next month - it’s a modest size home up on a hill with a great view just outside of town. Send me a dm if you’re looking for a house in Rockland and I can share more details.

I’ve been really enjoying feeding my life long passion of color by providing color consulting as a service! I have a full color kit with paint samples of , , lime wash , and the new wellness paint. Send me an email if you have a project in need of color or paint advice ✨

We are soaking in all the golden light of September in New England 🌼 Yellow is one of my favorite colors and I feel like this is the season for it. Pictured: sunflowers, lemon cucumbers from our amazing csa and a sunny yellow downtown exterior. Not pictured: so much fresh corn, swims in the ocean, tomatoes of all shades and back to school šŸ’›

I’ve been quiet on here lately, but busy behind the scenes living life, working on some exciting new projects and having so much fun parenting šŸ

This week marks four years of living in our house. At times progress can feel slow, I walk by the same pile of plaster tools day after day and don’t pick them up, I look at the unfinished gaps between the tops of our walls and the ceiling while nap trapped on the couch, wires hang down between the beams, unpainted surfaces pepper small areas throughout, the list goes on.

Despite never being done, never reaching the end of the list, never having that perfect ā€œrevealā€ where everything is suddenly polished. What I see when I look back at these photos is how much we’ve grown over the years. I step back and take it all in and see what a beautiful life we have built, and I can’t believe it’s only been four years. We are surrounded by unfinished projects, but we are also surrounded by life unfolding right before us! In addition to working on this house, fixing her up, making a home that’s uniquely ours, this house has steadily held us through the beginning of our marriage, multiple job changes, starting businesses, closing businesses, loss, sickness, the birth of our first child, her first birthday, many many meals and holidays shared with family and friends, growing a bountiful garden, raising chickens, making community with our neighbors and so much more.

I couldn’t be more grateful to have a place to call our own and unleash our collective creativity. Some people thought we were a little crazy to take a leap on a house that needed so much. We had debt! It had problems! We had very little to invest in fixing it! Thanks to everyone (especially our parents) who have supported us in taking this journey.

Here’s a collection of the same room’s stages over the last four years, ending with the listing photo from April 2021. Folks are always shocked to see the listing photos of our house (let’s just say we had vision 😳). Yes, this room had a layer of pink wallpaper under a layer of green wallpaper that looked like wood paneling, and yes the walls are still awaiting their final layer of paint, a new light fixture sits in the box ready for install, I have dreams of built in bench seating… on and on it goes!

Happy four years my love
