This week marks four years of living in our house. At times progress can feel slow, I walk by the same pile of plaster tools day after day and donāt pick them up, I look at the unfinished gaps between the tops of our walls and the ceiling while nap trapped on the couch, wires hang down between the beams, unpainted surfaces pepper small areas throughout, the list goes on.
Despite never being done, never reaching the end of the list, never having that perfect ārevealā where everything is suddenly polished. What I see when I look back at these photos is how much weāve grown over the years. I step back and take it all in and see what a beautiful life we have built, and I canāt believe itās only been four years. We are surrounded by unfinished projects, but we are also surrounded by life unfolding right before us! In addition to working on this house, fixing her up, making a home thatās uniquely ours, this house has steadily held us through the beginning of our marriage, multiple job changes, starting businesses, closing businesses, loss, sickness, the birth of our first child, her first birthday, many many meals and holidays shared with family and friends, growing a bountiful garden, raising chickens, making community with our neighbors and so much more.
I couldnāt be more grateful to have a place to call our own and unleash our collective creativity. Some people thought we were a little crazy to take a leap on a house that needed so much. We had debt! It had problems! We had very little to invest in fixing it! Thanks to everyone (especially our parents) who have supported us in taking this journey.
Hereās a collection of the same roomās stages over the last four years, ending with the listing photo from April 2021. Folks are always shocked to see the listing photos of our house (letās just say we had vision š³). Yes, this room had a layer of pink wallpaper under a layer of green wallpaper that looked like wood paneling, and yes the walls are still awaiting their final layer of paint, a new light fixture sits in the box ready for install, I have dreams of built in bench seating⦠on and on it goes!
Happy four years my love
