I am grateful for today. At the end of January, David and got a 4 bedroom house that was badly outdated and needing attention. The house had its original lighting, flooring, kitchen and bath fixtures, and windows. It had a leaky roof in several places. The house was full of furniture. The garage and sheds were full of stuff as well. We cleared the furniture, the bathroom fixtures, and the original flooring from the early 80s. We removed three add-on porches and unstable roof over the porches. We removed all the original windows. We took down the popcorn ceiling. We partially removed a wall between the kitchen and family room to open things up a bit. We had 4 trees cut down. We took down the stone walls and other brickwork that surrounded the house. We moved a 16’ greenhouse that was on the side yard. This house was at parade rest!
We installed new vinyl windows. We textured and painted the ceilings and walls. We installed new bathroom fixtures. We installed new luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout. We installed white trim throughout, approximately 200 pieces of it. We built and installed window frames and painted them white as well. We refinished the kitchen cabinets. We installed new lighting fixtures and new kitchen appliances. We installed a new roof.
We were the destruction crew, the plumbers, the electricians, drywallers, window installers, painters, the tree removal crew, the landscapers, the dump crew, roofers, etc. We got some help on the cleaning but we were primarily the cleaners as well.
David and I worked together. We disagreed on some. We each had times when we said, it is just a rental as a means of saying it is good enough. They were never at the same time by the way! Then we went back and made it right. David was excellent. He worked at the shipyard during the day then at the rental at night and on weekends. He did a great job. David worked tirelessly to sell, give, and donate the furniture and stuff from this place as many have seen from his posts.
David posted the house for rent and we were quickly overwhelmed with potential renters. Everyone that came to see the place, wanted it. We quickly decided on renters so we could take the advertisement down.
I am grateful that we had just a few scrapes, some sore muscles, received some splinters, but remained healthy throughout. It took a lot longer than I thought it would. We had more rework than I care to admit. I am thankful that a couple of days ago our renters started to move in. We are done, I hope.
