This space is a beautiful, open-concept area with an abundance of natural light, but it didnāt feel warm or inviting. The homeowners wanted it to be more intimate and better suited for entertaining friends and gathering with family.
To achieve that, I created distinct zones for each activity. The dining area is centered around the dining table, the kitchen features comfortable counter seating, and the living room has its own clearly defined space. One of the biggest transformations came from using a much larger area rug to anchor the living room. Instead of making the room feel larger and disconnected, the oversized rug visually defined the seating area, making it feel cozy and intentional while still preserving the openness of the space. Previously, the room had a rug that was far too small, there wasnāt enough furniture to properly fill the space, and the layout didnāt encourage conversation or connection.
By reworking the furniture arrangement, adding appropriately scaled pieces, and using a larger rug, we transformed the room into a space that feels both open and intimateāthe perfect environment for relaxing or entertainingš¤
