I start by marking intentions on the background of the canvas, words, symbols, whatever the piece needs to hold. Most of it disappears. But it’s still there. That’s how I begin each painting.

I painted the background. Then realized I wanted texture. So I added modeling paste right over the wet paint! Something I hadn’t tried before. It could’ve been a disaster. It wasn’t. Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t plan.
