when my cup had holes 🧡
For a long time, I thought I simply needed to fill my cup.
But what if the real work is recognizing that sometimes the cup has holes?
You can keep pouring into yourself, pouring into others, pouring into life… but if there are places where your energy, trust, peace, and belief are continually leaking out, eventually you find yourself empty again.
That realization has been humbling for me.
The past two weeks have reminded me that sometimes we really do have to begin again.
I’ve spent time loving on and honoring dear friends, welcoming our beautiful future daughter-in-law and getting to know her lovely family, renewing trust deep within myself, and slowing down to simply be with the love of my life.
We’ve laughed. We’ve relaxed. We’ve made memories. And somewhere in those simple moments, I realized just how much rebuilding we have both been doing.
Not rebuilding the same cups we had before…
But creating stronger ones.
Cups that can hold more.
Cups that don’t have to constantly prove they are enough.
Cups that are allowed to simply be.
I’ve also been reflecting on how powerful that feeling of “I don’t have enough” can be.
Not enough time.
Not enough energy.
Not enough love.
Not enough patience.
Not enough of ourselves.
When we live in that overwhelmed and stressful place for too long, it can become a pattern—shaping our thoughts, emotions, feelings, and ultimately the way we see ourselves and our lives.
For me, healing has meant becoming intentional about changing that pattern.
My holistic practices, including essential oils, have become part of the rituals I use to support my well-being, create moments of grounding, and help me become more mindful of what I’m feeling.
When I’m feeling worried, I reach for Geranium and diffuse it while taking a few intentional breaths.
When anger rolls in, Patchouli has become one of my go-to aromas. I love applying it topically in a properly diluted blend and taking a moment to slow down before reacting.
When I’m feeling stressed, I love pairing a soothing cup of herbal tea with calming aromatherapy—a little ritual that reminds my mind and body that it’s okay to pause.
When I need to ground myself or calm my nerves, doTERRA Balance is one of my favorites. I’ll apply it in a properly diluted blend to my wrists and neck and breathe deeply.
When I’m feeling nervous or unsettled, I love diffusing Bergamot and creating a little space to simply breathe.
When I’m feeling sad or a little down, Elevation is one of the blends I reach for. Its bright, uplifting aroma helps create a shift in the atmosphere and gives me a beautiful reminder to invite a little lightness back in.
And when fatigue starts creeping in, Wild Orange and Peppermint are my energizing combination. I’ll dilute them appropriately, or simply inhale their aromas from my hands, and take a few deep breaths.
None of these rituals are about pretending that difficult emotions don’t exist.
They are about pausing long enough to acknowledge what I’m feeling and choosing how I want to care for myself in that moment.
I’m learning to move from “I don’t have enough” toward “I have enough for today.”
Enough breath.
Enough love.
Enough support.
Enough wisdom.
Enough strength.
And most importantly…
I am enough.
Taking care of myself isn’t about stepping away from the people I love. It’s what allows me to come back to them with more presence, more patience, more joy, and more love.
I am learning that I don’t have to pour from an empty cup.
I can pause.
I can refill.
I can mend the holes.
I can rest.
And when my cup is full, I can pour from abundance instead of depletion.
Maybe beginning again isn’t starting over after all.
Maybe it’s simply choosing to build a stronger cup for the life we are becoming ready to hold. 💝🙏
Fill your cup. Mend your holes. Trust your roots. And let yourself grow wild.
