For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed arts and crafts. I dabbled in a lot of things, sketching, photography, scrapbooking, sewing, and knitting; just about anything that would allow my creative side to escape now and then. I didn’t set out to go into business and offer my designs to the public. About ten years ago a friend of mine invited me to a craft night at one of her friend’s home. The
re were a dozen or so of us enjoying a pot luck dinner, some wine, and getting crafty. The host was teaching us to bead our own bracelets, all we had to do was chip in for the supplies. This was really exciting for me not just because I was making new friends but as a plus sized woman I never could find bracelets that fit me. That night I made several and I had a blast. Three or four years later I was standing in a local craft store looking at beads. I had been stumped on a gift for a family member, I’d been looking for a purple rosary and wasn’t happy with anything I’d found. That’s when it hit me, I could make one myself and it would mean even more to her. This is where the snowball got its start. Now that I had the initial supplies I started making jewelry for myself and various items as gifts while I explored different beading techniques. Then in 2013 another friend and I were talking about the local Renaissance Fair and costume accessories, particularly, the need for a rosary in very specific colors. I scoffed and said, “I can make that!” BOOM! So pleased with the finished product, two more rosaries were ordered because, after all, who doesn’t like options? I got my first referral within a week and scored a major order – circlet (headpiece), necklace, bracelet, and earrings. Cheeky Chic Designs may have had an accidental beginning but I believe in its purpose which is to bring fun and lively designs into your life.
