Shop will be open this Saturday, June 6th from 10-5. Lots of new old items in. Heres a couple of canopy beds that have arrived. First is a beautiful curly maple one with a curved canopy. Some nice figure to the wood especially the headboard. Nice delicate turned posts. the other bed was made maybe 10 years after and made of birch. First bed made about 1815 second one about 1825-1830. As with almost all antique beds they will need custom sized box spring and mattresses. Standardized sizing didnt really come in until the 20th century. Several blanket chests and a nice Pembroke table with cross stretcher base are also new arrivals among other items as well.

Wow its almost May! Shop will be open This coming Saturday May 2nd. Been a funny month of April! Been busy! Didnt buy much but did buy some wonderful pieces of furniture and its almost all gone already! Did just get this wonderful Windsor armchair made by Wallace Nutting, yes the same guy that did the colored photos. He didnt actually make the chair but he had it made in his Framingham factory to his specs. Slightly oversized with great turnings and a wonderfully shaped seat. I use to see these fairly regularly 30+ years ago but not so much these days. DR Dimes thought enough of this chair that even they copied it! Being a man of more than ample proportions I have always found these chairs very comfortable!

Here is a nice etching on wove paper by the American artist Charles Adams Platt 1861-1933, titled "Atlantic Docks, done in 1888. Platt was an artist also well known as a landscape as well as building architect and garden designer. He became interested in etchings in the early 1880's and only worked in this medium for about 10 years. An example of this same etching is in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum. Always difficult to get a photo of anything under glass without getting glare and reflections! $175.00

Shop will be open next Saturday April 4th, day before Easter. Heres a couple of interesting items.
First is a tall clock with a complicated history. It comes from a collection from Williamsburg, Va. The brass movement with a silvered dial is by William Ballantyne, Head of Canongate, Edinburgh, Scotland working dates 1778-1806. The Virginia collector owned the movement and then commissioned a case to be made for it by master cabinetmaker, Charles Sine Jr from Edinburg, Va in 2004. Case is cherry. If you are not familiar with these types of clocks they need to be "level" to run. This does not mean using a level to level it. It is leveled by the sound of the pendulum swinging back and forth. This is a tedious process getting it right! It took me a couple of weeks but she has been running well for a couple weeks now! Usually referred to as "tall clocks" this one is about 8 feet tall. A handsome clock.
