Happy Monday! I am trying to get myself organized today while I have a number of projects finishing up and a few in the queue to start.

Our master bath is the next big project for our house. It is one of the spaces I hate going in to which is the opposite of how a bathroom should feel!

So to honor the house, I am keeping this space and I am so excited for it! A lot of it we will be doing ourselves, with a few items hired out. Still a little bit away from actually starting work, but thought I would take you along the planning process with me.

What are some things you would like to learn about bath remodels??

Monday’s are for kitchens that are 95% completed and sparkly clean... for 5 minutes until sticky hands work their magic. Still nothing better than a fully clean kitchen ✨

Kitchen before and during. We demolished everything, including some old drywall that was beat up by removing the tile backsplash. We were originally only going to take out the section needed to relocate the plumbing and electrical, but when we saw how torn up it was after removing the tile and how it was not at all level... we just decided to cut out a bigger section. We also had to cut open a section of the subfloor to relocate some HVAC, gas line for the stove and electrical. We replaced the section we cut out with new ply so that we didn’t end up with any creaks. Once all that was back in place, it was time to start hanging cabinets! As much fun as pulling things apart was, it was so exciting to start putting it back together.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted on this account. A LOT has been happening in my life. I took some time off from work to have my baby boy, Flynn (who is now almost 8 months). Then, I had a seizure and landed myself in the hospital with viral meningitis with encephalitis when Flynn was only 6 weeks old. After getting back to normal life from that, a positive but time consuming thing happened... we bought a house! So now I finally get to design my own dream home. Keep checking in for construction and design updates!!

I spent today and really most of the long weekend on a beach, enjoying the peacefulness of the waves. This had me missing the beautiful quiet beaches and mountains of Thailand where we spent our honeymoon. So today's goes to Thailand. What struck me most throughout our trip was the use of natural materials and resources. This really helps to compliment the beauty of their surroundings, rather than competing with it. I love how simple this particular space is. Using natural woods and keeping the space light to really let the views add the color, keeping it serene as if you sitting on the sand. Take me back!

I am starting a weekly post that will feature inspirational spaces from around the world and from different decades of architecture.
Today, I am dreaming of Italian Villas and rich, warm materials. Italian architecture always reminds me that we shouldn't be afraid to go with that bold color or that piece of art that is slightly different. There is high use of natural materials, rich fabrics and greenery.

Guest bathroom updates are happening here at the Hummel house! I feel like my house is always a work in progress. I either don't have the funds to do what I want or the time or I just can't decide what direction I want to take the space... and at times, it's all 3 reasons! Little by little though, I am making progress! 🏚🔜🏠

Renting a house can be a struggle with limitations keeping you from really making a space how you want it to be. But you can completely change the feel of a space with just a little paint and decorations. I will share photos once it is complete!

It's been a bit since I posted last. Life has been getting in the way! All my projects are in progress so I don't have anything of mine to show. Instead, I'm posting a space that inspires me to think outside of the box and be bold. Bo Beau in Long Beach is gorgeous! My favorite is the tiles and reclaimed wood on the walls. Inspiring!

What inspires you? I am in love with not only the beauty of the simple elegant details of this building, but also the glory of the city's lights. My husband and I visited the today, on our 2 year anniversary. This is where he proposed to me and it will always have a special place in my heart.
