This business all started out in our garage in Madison, Wisconsin in 2014. I was a stay at home mom of two small children 14 months apart. That fall a bomb was dropped on us. Our 23 month old son was given an autism diagnosis. He was nonverbal and we were told he might never speak. I remember when the doctor gave us his diagnosis. I literally felt like I got hit with a ton of bricks. I sat in her office asking her to stop talking, to back up and repeat what she had said. I didn’t see it coming. I was devastated, as if my son was just given a life sentence.
As an introvert without any family near, the first of my friends to have children and with my husband, Matt, working full time and going back to school at night, I felt extremely alone and overwhelmed. I needed an outlet and a way to help pull my weight in the financial department so we could offer our son all the tools and therapy he needed.

I started making signs on an upside down industrial trash can while my babies were napping or at night after they went to bed.
