Bertie and Gertie want to remind the flock that Memorial Day is more than the start of summer, cookouts, or long weekends. It is a sacred pause in the life of a nation — a day set aside to remember the men and women who gave everything so that others could live free.

Today we remember the soldiers who never came home. From the fields of the American Revolution and Civil War, to the beaches of Normandy, the mountains of Korea, the jungles of Vietnam, the deserts of Iraq and Kuwait, and the rugged terrain of Afghanistan — generation after generation answered the call to serve.

We remember those lost in World War I and World War II, where millions around the world fought against tyranny and countless Americans never returned home. We remember the young men frozen in the harsh winters of Korea, the service members who carried the weight of Vietnam, and those who served during conflicts in Lebanon, Somalia, Bosnia, and Kosovo.

We honor the fallen from Desert Storm and the Global War on Terror — the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and now Guardians who served after September 11th. We remember those lost in Iraq and Afghanistan, in dangerous missions far from home, and the families who carried the burden of every deployment, every knock at the door, and every folded flag handed over in silence.

Some rest beneath white crosses in distant lands. Others came home only in memory and story, carried through generations by families who refused to let them be forgotten.

Memorial Day asks something simple of us: remember them.

Remember that freedom was not handed down lightly. It was defended in muddy trenches, on storm-tossed seas, in foreign forests, and on battlefields where ordinary Americans showed extraordinary courage. Remember the empty chairs at family tables. The Gold Star families whose sacrifice continues long after the guns fall silent. The names etched into stone monuments in small towns and cities across America.

And remember that behind every name was a human life — someone who laughed, dreamed, loved, worried, and hoped for the future.

We honor them not only with ceremonies and flags, but by living in a way worthy of their sacrifice: with gratitude, with compassion, with unity, and with an understanding that liberty has always come at a cost.

So today, may we pause for more than a moment.
May we speak their names.
May we tell their stories.
And may we never allow their sacrifice to fade into history.

Because remembrance is how we carry them forward.

Today Bertie and Dolly spilled the tea on some celebrity gossip!
🤫🤭

Dolly: Bertie… did you hear who unfollowed who this week?

Bertie: Honey, I can barely keep up with my own flock drama, let alone celebrity nonsense. Who is it now?

Dolly: Apparently two pop stars broke up, got back together, and broke up again… all before lunch yesterday.

Bertie: Efficient. I respect the commitment to chaos.

Dolly: And somebody wore a dress made entirely of crystals to an awards show.

Bertie: In THIS economy?

Dolly: Exactly what I said! Meanwhile I’m over here reusing the same sunhat from Easter.

Bertie: That’s called being financially responsible, Dolly. Celebrities wouldn’t understand.

Dolly: Oh! And there’s rumors one actor secretly hates another actor.

Bertie: Well now that’s believable. I secretly hate Gary from down the pond.

Dolly: Gary knows what he did.

Bertie: He stole my biscuit at the church picnic in 2022 and I never forgot it.

Dolly: As you shouldn’t.

(both sip sweet tea dramatically)

Dolly: Honestly though, celebrity life seems exhausting. Cameras everywhere. Reporters asking questions. Folks analyzing every little thing.

Bertie: Couldn’t be me. If somebody photographed me eating cornbread at midnight, I’d simply pass away.

Dolly: Bertie… you ate six biscuits at Thanksgiving.

Bertie: And I’d do it again.

Dolly: You know what really gets me? Celebrities saying, “We’re just taking time to focus on ourselves.”

Bertie: That usually means somebody got caught acting foolish.

Dolly: Mhm. Translation: “The group chat leaked.”

Bertie: Dolly, pour me another glass. This tea is hotter than the pavement in July.

Dolly: Already ahead of you, sister.

Dolly: Bertie… the celebrity world is WORKING overtime this week.

Bertie: I knew it the second I opened my phone and saw seventeen people arguing about the Met Gala before breakfast.

Dolly: Speaking of that — everybody is still talking about who skipped the Met Gala this year.

Bertie: Missing the Met Gala is the modern version of leaving church early. Folks NOTICE.

Dolly: And apparently everybody’s obsessed with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce again because wedding rumors are flying all over the place.

Bertie: Honey, according to the internet, they’re either secretly married, planning a royal-level wedding, or hiding in London eating appetizers.

Dolly: Actually… the London date night DID happen. Fancy dinner, theater trip, celebrity party afterward — the whole thing.

Bertie: Meanwhile my idea of romance is somebody bringing me mozzarella sticks without asking.

Dolly: Same.

Hello feathered friends, Bertie Webbers here and I'm coming to you from Louisville KY! What an exciting day we have ahead! I know that Gertie, Teal, Tillie and I have been MIA, we had decided to unplug for a bit to renew and recharge. Today they remain at the homestead and have some fun pictures to share of our time there. I am here at Churchill Downs joining some fashion friends at the 152nd Kentucky Derby! We are sipping our Mint Julep waiting for the excitement to begin! Did you know that the Mint Julep is the official, iconic drink of the Churchill Downs Kentucky Derby, with over 125,000 served during race weekend? A staple since 1938, this bourbon-based cocktail typically features Woodford Reserve or Old Forester bourbon, simple syrup, fresh mint, and crushed ice, often served in a souvenir cup. Delicious! Today I've got my eye on Commandment, he is a leading contender entering the race with a four-race winning streak. Trained by Brad Cox, the c**t is a top betting choice following his victory in the Grade 1 Florida Derby.
His Sire is, Into Mischief, and the Dam is, Sippican Harbor. Commandment is a Kentucky-bred bay c**t owned by Wathnan Racing.

Geese and ganders, we gather to celebrate one of the most iconic and enduring traditions in American sport—the Kentucky Derby. First run in 1875, the Kentucky Derby is the oldest continuously held major sporting event in the United States. It takes place each year at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, where the distinctive Twin Spires have become a symbol recognized around the world. Founded by Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr., the Derby was inspired by the great horse races of Europe and was envisioned as a premier American event that would showcase the very best in Thoroughbred racing. The race itself is deceptively simple—one and one-quarter miles on a dirt track, open only to three-year-old Thoroughbred horses. And yet, in those brief two minutes, history is made. It is this combination of speed, precision, and unpredictability that has earned the Derby its famous nickname: “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” Over time, the Kentucky Derby has grown far beyond a horse race. It is the first leg of the prestigious Triple Crown, followed by the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes—an achievement so rare that only a select few horses have ever captured all three titles in a single season. But what truly sets the Derby apart is its rich tradition and unmistakable atmosphere. The winning horse is draped in the legendary Garland of Roses, a symbol of victory since the late 19th century. As the horses make their way to the starting gate, the crowd of geese rises to sing “My Old Kentucky Home,” a moment that connects generations of spectators through shared history and pride. And of course, there is the pageantry—the fashion, the elegance, and the celebration. From elaborate hats to vibrant spring attire, Derby Day is as much about style and social tradition as it is about sport. The mint julep, served in its signature silver cup, has become the official drink of the event, with more than 100,000 enjoyed each year by geese in attendance. Through the decades, the Kentucky Derby has remained a cultural cornerstone—bringing together geese from all walks of life to witness greatness, to celebrate tradition, and to take part in a uniquely American experience. So whether you are here for the thrill of the race, the beauty of the horses, or the joy of the tradition, one thing is certain: for those two unforgettable minutes, the world pauses—and anything can happen. Enjoy the Derby!
