Hello feathered friends, Bertie Webbers here and I'm coming to you from Louisville KY! What an exciting day we have ahead! I know that Gertie, Teal, Tillie and I have been MIA, we had decided to unplug for a bit to renew and recharge. Today they remain at the homestead and have some fun pictures to share of our time there. I am here at Churchill Downs joining some fashion friends at the 152nd Kentucky Derby! We are sipping our Mint Julep waiting for the excitement to begin! Did you know that the Mint Julep is the official, iconic drink of the Churchill Downs Kentucky Derby, with over 125,000 served during race weekend? A staple since 1938, this bourbon-based cocktail typically features Woodford Reserve or Old Forester bourbon, simple syrup, fresh mint, and crushed ice, often served in a souvenir cup. Delicious! Today I've got my eye on Commandment, he is a leading contender entering the race with a four-race winning streak. Trained by Brad Cox, the c**t is a top betting choice following his victory in the Grade 1 Florida Derby.
His Sire is, Into Mischief, and the Dam is, Sippican Harbor. Commandment is a Kentucky-bred bay c**t owned by Wathnan Racing.
Geese and ganders, we gather to celebrate one of the most iconic and enduring traditions in American sport—the Kentucky Derby. First run in 1875, the Kentucky Derby is the oldest continuously held major sporting event in the United States. It takes place each year at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, where the distinctive Twin Spires have become a symbol recognized around the world. Founded by Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr., the Derby was inspired by the great horse races of Europe and was envisioned as a premier American event that would showcase the very best in Thoroughbred racing. The race itself is deceptively simple—one and one-quarter miles on a dirt track, open only to three-year-old Thoroughbred horses. And yet, in those brief two minutes, history is made. It is this combination of speed, precision, and unpredictability that has earned the Derby its famous nickname: “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” Over time, the Kentucky Derby has grown far beyond a horse race. It is the first leg of the prestigious Triple Crown, followed by the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes—an achievement so rare that only a select few horses have ever captured all three titles in a single season. But what truly sets the Derby apart is its rich tradition and unmistakable atmosphere. The winning horse is draped in the legendary Garland of Roses, a symbol of victory since the late 19th century. As the horses make their way to the starting gate, the crowd of geese rises to sing “My Old Kentucky Home,” a moment that connects generations of spectators through shared history and pride. And of course, there is the pageantry—the fashion, the elegance, and the celebration. From elaborate hats to vibrant spring attire, Derby Day is as much about style and social tradition as it is about sport. The mint julep, served in its signature silver cup, has become the official drink of the event, with more than 100,000 enjoyed each year by geese in attendance. Through the decades, the Kentucky Derby has remained a cultural cornerstone—bringing together geese from all walks of life to witness greatness, to celebrate tradition, and to take part in a uniquely American experience. So whether you are here for the thrill of the race, the beauty of the horses, or the joy of the tradition, one thing is certain: for those two unforgettable minutes, the world pauses—and anything can happen. Enjoy the Derby!
