You hired an interior designer. You got an entire executive team.

Creative director. Project manager. Negotiator. Accountant. Therapist (unlicensed, unfortunately). And occasionally, a furniture mover.

Because behind every beautifully curated space is a designer managing approximately 47 things you’ll never have to think about.

Making it look effortless is part of the job. 🥂

They say, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

I don’t think that’s true.

I think when you do what you love, you work harder than you ever have. You care more. You stay up later. You obsess over the details no one else will notice. You pour pieces of yourself into something because it actually means something to you.

Building Grace & Valor has been some of the hardest work I’ve ever done.

And I’d choose it over and over again. 🤍

Here’s to building something you love enough to work this hard for.

A little look at what’s been taking shape behind the scenes. From site visits and selections to projects in progress across Virginia, Maryland, and Texas, there’s been a lot happening over here lately.

Each project looks a little different, but the goal stays the same: thoughtful spaces, intentional details, and homes that feel deeply personal to the people living in them.

We can’t wait to share more of what’s coming together.

Word of the day: exhausterwhelmulated.

Exhausted. Overwhelmed. Overstimulated. And somehow still answering emails and talking about paint colors like everything is totally fine.

I tend to keep things professional here, which means I keep most of my personal life offline. But for the sake of transparency… the last three months have been A LOT.

Behind the pretty interiors, client meetings, samples, site visits, and running a business, our family has been dealing with an absolute rental nightmare since moving to Virginia.

And today, WE MOVE.

Into a new home. Out of the chaos. And hopefully into a season with significantly less exhausterwhelmulation.

So if I seem a little tired lately… now you know.

Here’s to fresh starts, new homes, and never seeing another moving box again. 🤍

(At least until the Army tells us otherwise or we retire)

I have no idea what’s happening in my own house, but I know exactly why yours feels off. 😂

It’s called priorities.

Your rug is too small.
Your lighting is the wrong temperature.
Your furniture scale is fighting for its life.
And yes, moving that chair 4 inches will make a difference.

Meanwhile, I’ve reheated my coffee three times and have absolutely no idea where I put it.

Interior designers: professionally hyper-aware of your home, questionably aware of our own lives. 🫡

You asked for a sign… this is it. ✨

Hire the interior designer.

Before you order the wrong-size sofa.
Before you choose the wrong white.
Before you realize the lighting plan probably should’ve happened before the electrician showed up.

Consider this your sign.

Budget? We don’t know her. 💅🏼✨

JK. We require a budget… we just prefer it with a touch of bougie. 😌

A mood board is one of the first places a room starts to feel real.

Before we get into every individual piece, we use it to establish the overall direction of the space: the color palette, materials, finishes, textures, and the feeling we want the room to have.

It also gives us a chance to see how everything works together before making bigger decisions. Does the wood tone feel too warm next to the fabric? Does the rug bring enough contrast? Is there enough variation in texture? Are we repeating the same finish too many times?

Those small relationships are what make a room feel layered and intentional instead of like a collection of separate pieces.

A good mood board becomes a filter for the rest of the design process. If something doesn’t support the direction we established here, it probably doesn’t belong in the room.

Save this for the next time you’re planning a space and feel tempted to start buying pieces before you have a clear direction.

And we’re curious: what do you notice first on a mood board: color, texture, or the furniture?
