A woodblock print titled Clown and Pedestal by American surrealist artist Gertrude Abercrombie, part of a 1940 calendar (1,000 printed) published by the Chicago Society of Artists and her second of only two in this annual publication; her previous in 1939 (2,000 printed), her print Moonlight, depicts the same or similar clown on his back with Gertrude standung over him holding a pistol. Because the ink was transferred directly from Gertrude Abercrombie's hand-carved block to this sheet of paper, each calendar page is an individual impression of the original block. A woodblock print titled Moonlight by American surrealist artist Gertrude Abercrombie, part of a 1939 calendar (2,000 printed) published by the Chicago Society of Artists and her first of only two in this annual publication; her next in 1940. It is a self- portrait and she holds a pistol. In 1940 (1,000 printed), her print Clown and Pedestal, depicts the same or similar clown apparently recovered from his wound(s). Because the ink was transferred directly from Gertrude Abercrombie's hand-carved block to this sheet of paper, each calendar page is an individual impression of the original block.

Chicago outsider artist masterpiece. Mixed media painting with prints on canvas or board in a commercial window panel with glass also painted. Possibly an early Robert Johnson. The transportation scene is contrasted with an elaborate inner scenes depicting painted figures, hearts, houses, a painted Matisse print, and painted valentines.
