Here's some words from our artist Bill Doolan

I was born in Chicago and moved to Mt Prospect, IL where I attended public schools with graduation in 1967.I attended college at Harper Jr College and finished my degree at Northern Illinois University with a degree in education for instrumental music in 1972. I then looked for a teaching job only in Wisconsin ( kinda wanted to move from the Chicago area to a slower pace here in the Valley). I applied to Kickapaoo area schools for the instrumental music position and in 1973 and accepted the program where i spent 32 years. I also started an electric, heating/cooling business which I ran for 8 years until I was disabled on the job and then went back to teaching. I retired in 2012 and then started my own wood shop as I had used the schools equipment in many night classes. I have been involved with the Village of Viola with the village board, electric utility and the EMT in the 70-80's. We moved to our current home that I built ( along with friends) with my wife and blended family in 1995. I've been on the Vernon Memorial Hospital foundation committee and the Bethel Home Foundation. My shop has been very active since 1998. I make mostly custom orders (and the almost world famous cheese slicers) and have been a part of the Viroqua Farmers Market for 10 years. I also have been to many other local crafts shows in a 50 mile radios. It was an honor to be selected to this years Artisan Alley along with several outstanding other members. Come and see my shop at almost anytime, it'd be my pleasure to see you. Come and join us for this years Christmas gifts from our outsstanding local Artisans! SEE YA SOON!

PAT BALK is a phenomenal jeweler and is new to Artisan Alley this year. She says,
"I love creating unique, unusual and one of a kind pieces by working with semi-precious stones along with silver, brass, copper and vintage findings. I continue to take classes so I can learn different techniques and continue to share unique pieces of jewelry. I hope that my passion for designing and creating continues to grow as I stretch the boundaries of my imagination. Thomas Merton said it best “art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”.
Artisan Alley is open Tue- Sat 11-5 and Sunday 12-4 with different hours Christmas week. Located at 114 S. Main St Viroqua.

Have you ever met or seen the artwork of:
SABINA A. MYSZKA
- A Viroqua, Wisconsin-based artist born and raised in Poland. The medium often picked are acrylic paints and canvas. Her style mirrors a mystical world of multidimensionality and spirit form. She loves to include information that isn’t very obvious at first. Lots of her inspiration comes from beyond the veil where she immerses herself into meditation and a variety of universal life-force guided healing practices which she also offers. Sabina’s connection to the infinite roots of all serves as a foundation to be depicted through her art. Dreams, visions, and channeled free flow are the birthplace, the beginning of her artistic language. “Nature is the source of human wellbeing,” she says “…and in it we can find healing.” Her art serves as a visually activating medicine for the Soul.
Sabina’s dedication to reintroducing the world that is often ignored, the forgotten human third eye created the purpose of her art. That channeled visual manifestation is to heal the human soul in remembrance of who we are and where we came from. Ancestral theme often shows in her work. It is about the codes that speak to the viewer. Her codes talk about connectivity, multiverse, and supernatural abilities that are hidden within. Elemental forces are often present breaking the illusion of separation. Nothing is separate; all is connected, just like the paint on the canvas. Love is the glue, the healer. Self-love is the path of an open mind and heart. We are all related as creative beings. Through that creative connectivity, she brings images to life.

Paul Bick

is a potter with studios in Chicago and Viroqua. He is primarily interested in wheel-thrown utilitarian objects and in exploring the beauty of simple, organic form and color. Trained as an anthropoligist and ethnographic photographer, Bick has worked extensively in Haiti and in the community gardens of Chicago. In collaboration with his wife anthropologist Molly Doane, their work has exhibited at several Chicago locations including most recently at the Field Museum of Natural History. As both a photographer and ceramicist, Bick sees simple objects as important and intentional constituents of the spaces they occupy. His work is always on display at Jarvis Square Pottery in the Roger's Park neighborhood of Chicago, where Bick and Doane host regular concerts and community gatherings and have built a decorative kitchen garden and edible landscape. Creating art has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. In recent years I have discovered that I love the medium of watercolor. I enjoy the different effects that can be had with paint and water. Each time I pick up my brush it is an opportunity to let the paint do something new.

Inspiration is found in the world around me.

Let's hear from our stain glass artist Melissa Luck, who's new to Artisan Alley this year!
"I enrolled in my first stained glass class in 2006 and have been hooked ever since. I started out just making pieces for myself, family and friends but in 2015 I decided to quit my job and create art full time. I opened my Etsy store in 2016 and recently have expanded to showing at art fairs. I make a lot of animals and flowers because I really like the combination of stained glass and things from nature like wood, stone or shells. I’m always happy to do custom work and love to design new pieces. I live near Blue River with my husband on our farm with our herd of yaks and Scottish Highlands."

You'll see Melissa's work hanging in our windows at 114 S. Main St Viroqua as you walk or drive by, but please stop to see them in person!

Now let's talk about one of our painters, KATHY FAIRCHILD:

Kathy graduated from Ohio State University in 1973 with a degree in Art Education, with a Film & Photography minor.
She worked for many years in various settings as a photographer. Her watercolors seem to be an on-going process of adapting her photographic vision into works of pleasing composition and successful ex*****on. Having painted with the Viroqua Plein Air Painters group for some years now, she feels the input of fellow artists has been a great benefit.
Now retired, traveling has given her the opportunity to paint other unique regional images. Watercolor presents its own realm of challenges and she continues to work towards better meeting those.

Today's post features KEN GARDEN
I grew up in a house with a wood shop in the basement and no television. From the time that I was 5 or 6 years old I was in the basement most nights sawing wood and hammering nails. I was always handy with wood, but not until I retired from 35 years in the graphic arts field did I set up a dedicated woodworking shop. I especially enjoy working with my lathe and turning a scrap or a piece of firewood into something useful. There are endless possibilities that I have yet to explore. Instead of gathering wood for a project I often find a particular piece of wood that inspires me to create something special. My problem now is that there is so much wood and so little time. It’s a problem I can live with.
