Felt Like Sweets An Etsy shop with creations inspired by my two little girls!! http://FeltLikeSweets.etsy.com I'm C.M. She LOVED IT SO MUCH!! Her friends LOVED IT SO MUCH!!

Cameron, father of two little girls, and am inspired by the way my girls learn and play. Chemical Engineer by day, I channel my creative energy into making felt cookies, cupcakes, and tea sets to wind down at night, after the girls are asleep. It all started a year ago when we bought my oldest daughter, Charlotte, a children's tea set for Christmas (you know... the cups and plates and spoons). To

go along with it, I made her a set of felt cupcakes, cookies, tea bags and strawberries. So, I started making small sets for Charlotte to give to her playmates for their birthdays, and boy oh boy, did their mommies LOVE THEM SO MUCH!! Kid tested and mother approved, all the offerings in my Etsy shop are handmade, inspired by those that I made for my girls. I thoroughly enjoy every part of the creative process: walking the isles of the craft store (or surfing the supply pages of Etsy), picking out felt, beads, thread, hand stitching and stuffing, and piecing together a final creation. I take great pride in my products, and enjoy their little imperfections that make them so charming and unique. Looking forward to sharing my creations with you!!

“I like bright, bold colors. I like that modern quilts don’t have to be precise—perfectly imperfect. I’m a big fan of color and placement of color to enhance design,” Charles Cameron said.
He’s only been quilting for four years, but he knows what he likes and is already very good at it. Read more about Charles on page 56 of Quiltfolk, Issue 23: North Carolina.

It is with the deepest gratitude and humility that I share that my quilt, Sudoku, was awarded first place in the Small Quilt category at QuiltCon 2022.

I’d like to thank The Modern Quilt Guild staff, volunteers and judges who worked so hard to put this show together. I’d like to thank Quilt National for sponsoring the Small Quilts category, and special recognition to Karen Stone and Liz Kiny who were also awarded ribbons in the Small Quilts category.

And I thank you, this wonderful community of modern quilters, who have welcomed me so warmly, and who support and encourage my work. You don’t know how much your friendship means to me.

As you may know, I had been planning to travel to Phoenix this year for the show, and was looking forward to meeting so many of you, engaging in workshops and lectures, (trading swag! 🤣)…

…and seeing and experiencing all the amazing QUILTS that are hanging in the show.

Jane Cameron, Charlotte and Alice knew how disappointed I was by not being able to attend the show. They pulled out all the stops with banners, balloons, party food, etc. for last night’s at-home viewing of the awards ceremony. Receiving an award was the icing on the cake.

Thank you to so many of you who took pictures for me from the live in person viewing (and for those who will take pictures from the show floor 📸) and who sent kinds words of congratulations .

I apologize in advance for the oversharing of this quilt over the coming days 🤣

The Artist Statement for this quilt can be found just a few posts back, as well as in the pages of this year’s QuiltCon magazine (page 22!), available on the Quilting Daily website (link in bio).

In February The Modern Quilt Guild will hold their annual quilt show, QuiltCon, in Phoenix, AZ; by many measures its the largest, most prestigious show of modern quilts in the world.

Entry into the show is juried. This year over 2,000 quilts were submitted for consideration and approximately 500 quilts were selected to hang in the show and will be judged in a number of categories.

I’m pleased and honored (and a little bit giddy) to share that 3 of my quilts have been selected for entry into the 2022 show.

Take the Stairs, 66 x 75” will hang in the Negative Space category.

Sudoku, 14 x 14” will hang in the Small Quilts category.

The Majestic Milky Way, 24 x 40” will hang in the Artisan Fabric Challenge category.

Many thanks to those who support and encourage me. Congratulations to all the other wonderful quilters/artists whose quilts will hang alongside mine. Special recognition to the many quilters/artisans whose quilts were not selected for this year’s show. In most cases, it’s not because they were not worthy. I continue to be inspired by your work.

I hope that you will along with me.🟩🥳

🟦 Take The Stairs

🟩 66” x 75”

🟧3/8” machine quilted on a frame by Carrie Hauser

To ‘take the stairs’ is an adage that suggests that there’s no easy way of realizing one’s goal. That by focusing on the process of creating over the final product, one is more likely to question, learn, and discover.

To that end, the design and layout of this quilt took several iterations. I was eager to explore (and maximize) the undulation of dark negative space that could be created by arranging squares of increasing, then decreasing size and color value into a maze of stairs that crawls across the quit top.

Here, and although maybe not obvious at first glance, the colored stair maze starts at the top left, finishes at the bottom right, and meanders across the quit taking 90 and 180 degree turns at various points to fill the space.

This design was inspired by an architectural poster by Bruno Morassutti and Enzo Mari, Domus 428, 1965.

Those are perfectly parallel 3/8” quilting lines which also turn and twist across the quilt top following the maze of stairs. (That’s right!! Look closely 🕵️‍♂️🤯)

We decided on that spacing because each of the colored blocks in this quilt are 3/8” different from one another, so the quilting lines hit each sized block in exactly the same place. 🕵️‍♂️🤯

OMG, Carrie did such a great job.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Just keep sewing, QuiltConners!! I’m rooting for your finishes and can’t wait to see you and your quilts in Phoenix!🟦🟩🟧

I’m excited to share (and to have completed!) my entry into the I hope that you will along with me.💫🥳

This year’s fabric challenge colors and textures reminded me of the majestic light display of the Milky Way; the hazy band of light that arches across the night sky, formed from an accumulation of unresolved stars that cannot be individually distinguished by the human eye.

My interpretation of the Milky Way employs cross blocks of varying sizes and in colors of varying value. The possibilities that arise by placing different color values in each of cross blocks’ positions create the illusion of movement and sparkle. I further chose to highlight this year’s challenge fabrics by placing these stellar hues against a dark background filled with cosmic bodies that twinkle in the night sky.

I selected a quilting motif called ‘Starfield,’ from Walk2.0 by I selected this design to suggest constellation outlines, celestial orbits, and astronomical coordinate systems that traverse the vastness of this space.

‘Any Which Way’ is now a public art mural!

The Wake Forest Art Commission has announced the 2021 Spotlight on Wake Forest Artists Contest Winners.

My quilt, ‘Any Which Way,’ was one of 4 works selected, scanned into an electronic image and reproduced in brick vinyl. The vinyl mural is now hanging on the west facade of Sun Trust Building (353 S White St) in downtown Wake Forest.

Artist Statement:
Like so many, I found myself working from home during the COVID pandemic. With this quilt always within a glance, I used small breaks in my workday to progress this piece. As I assembled scraps of fabric, I began to react to the patterns and shapes that were emerging, continuously trimming, tilting and repositioning to maintain balance. This quilt is a symbol for how I experienced the COVID pandemic: continuously responding to new information; constrained by my know-how and resources; repositioning expectations to achieve harmony. At each turn learning something new and hoping to emerge with something substantive.

Many thanks to the and the Wake Forest Art Commission for this special honor.
