Yesterday was a fun and creative day at Ramble. We blocked off an area to do some photography for publication, and built a vignette up in layers, from a one minute messy sketch to blocking out the main structure in neutral form, lastly adding all the color and texture that makes interiors sing. Melding Traditional, MCM, Post-modern, Craftsman, Fine Art and Textiles for a collected space. It was a treat to use that side of the brain!

Yesterday, Ramble Market spent an inspiring day at Beacon Hill Design Day at the Boston Athenaeum. Incredible designers with beautiful new books to drool over, stimulating lectures and conversations, and a gorgeous Delft blue and white visual theme tying in with the new book Genevieve Wheeler Brown which I cannot wait to read. The history of material culture is so important and fascinating, and has us thinking about the variety of blue and white decorative objects that we are lucky to source and help place in new interiors. Last two images are a small sampling from the current shop floor. Can’t wait for next year’s event! Beacon Hill Books & Cafe

Katherine here - slightly different kind of post today. I have always loved design, but I got very interested in the world of second-hand, vintage, and antiques when my first child was born in 2001. The nature of babyhood is so fleeting, but there is SO much stuff you think you should buy fresh and new. These books are part of my personal library on the nature of manufacturing and overconsumption. Lots of it clothing oriented, but could just as easily apply to cheaply made furniture, disposable art etc. I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here, but these books had a huge influence on me, and I still refer back to them to refresh my resolve. Please share your book/podcast/inspirations for sustainable decorating and design in the comments. Would love some new voices to hear.
