I have to share a heart warming story. I saw this boy on marketplace. He’s 5 years old and paints amazing pictures.

I chatted with his mother, her English isn’t great, but we understood each other enough to get by. They’ve been in Virginia for 4 months after leaving Ukraine. Her son began painting to deal with the stress of the war in Ukraine. He painted portraits of pets that were lost on the war and gave them to their owners.

I purchased this painting and am going to pick it up later today along with some homemade pavlova. His mother teaches art therapy
and makes baked goods to make ends meet, they don’t even have a car but they are safe from the war. I don’t know how or why they chose Virginia to call home, but I’m glad they are safe. It put a lot of things in perspective. I’ve dealt with some scary things in my life but never the horrors of escaping a violent war. I can’t even image how terrifying it must have been for this mother and her son. I look so forward to meeting them!

If you need a great hairdresser in the Fredericksburg area, so see Nadia has helped me through my “going grey gracefully” period. I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t always easy, I wanted to throw in the towel on more than one occasion. I kept some back up brunette color in my closet, even with that temptation I stayed the course and am so glad I did! I was always super envious of lighter colored hair because that meant fun colors to try! Now I get to! 🌸♥️

Today I said goodbye to my sweetest sweet boy. Parker came from a life of abuse before we found each other. I adopted him in 2015, when he was around five years old. He had seriously boundaries and trust issues. He didn’t let me touch him for the first 6 weeks he lived with me, he wouldn’t let me or anyone pick him up, and he almost sat in my lap exactly one time! He loved to be pet by those he trusted but was never a cuddler.

He came to me as half of a bonded pair with Luna, a shy black cat who was around 8 at the time, she’d come from the same horrible background and the two trauma bonded. Together they taught me the value of extreme patience and learning to love in a different kind of way, on their terms.

I lost Luna in August of 2021 and Parker was never quite the same. It brings me comfort knowing that they are back together somewhere over the Rainbow Bridge, where they will never know any pain or suffering. They are brave, strong and happy. Parker also gets to eat all of the American Cheese and canned whipped cream he wants!

My heart is broken and I will miss this handsome boy immensely. I am very thankful he chose me to be his safe haven. ❤️
