‘Fashion is Art & When Art Became Fashion’ - A closer look at the recent curated micro exhibit for 🎨👗
Focussed on this year’s MET Gala dress code, the display includes five chapters of how fashion integrates into art and vice versa.
Featuring elements of costume design; a historical reinterpretation of ‘Alexandra of Denmark’s’ dress, hand sewn with original garment construction practices from 1863, handmade & loaned by pattern credit - ‘Repeated Originals’
A celebration for and his Oscar winning work for the motion picture Wicked - a study of his practice in costume design to creation.
Yves Saint Laurent’s 1960s Mondrian dress and how it shifted an era of fashion, trailblazing art to fashion so minimally and elegantly.
Micro replica of 1999 robotic arm fashion show scene, changing the game of the runway, at times conceptually, elevating the performance of fashion.
Rooting back to British designer Charles Frederick Worth, his Parisian Haute Couture Collections set precedence for the business of fashion - using live models and signing his clothes, reframing dressmaking as a type of authorship with creative discipline.
Thank you for reading, an even bigger thank you to everyone who attended the micro exhibit on Monday ❤️‍🔥

A special thank you to & for the opportunity to serve as Fashion Historian Chair. I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to continue developing my work in curatorial practice and exhibition-making 🙏

🇬🇧🌸👑 Earlier this week I was honoured to help host and play a small part at Their Majesties’ State Visit Garden Party at the British Ambassador’s Residence, DC.
Aside from fashion, I’ve spent the last 5 years working across horticulture projects too, more specifically, since living in America, working as a gardener and floral assistant at the British Embassy, Washington DC.
Horticulture, fashion, arts & music are (I believe) woven into the fabric in which our British culture comes from and couldn’t be more proud to have honoured and celebrated it this week for America 250.
The shared appreciation for the arts between Americans and Brits is something that has kept me focussed and grounded on my craft while living here. This week has been pleasantly patriotic to say the least and filled me with excitement for more years to come out here in America.
The garden party was thankfully in full bloom with reminiscent British treats on the menu… not to mention, I was lucky to meet the King of Crochet & Olympian 🏊🧶

✨ Reflecting on a Year of Service with Fashion Group International of Greater Washington DC - ✨

As I wrap up my first year working alongside, and serving as Chair for I’m incredibly proud of what our DC chapter of myself and these dedicated women have built together.

This year has been about more than events and programs; it’s been about transforming FGI into an approachable, inclusive organisation that truly supports fashion professionals and independent designers from every background and at every stage of their career.

From creatives striking out on their first freelance journey to established industry leaders, our mission has been to create a community where everyone feels seen, supported and empowered. Watching that vision come to life has been one of the most rewarding parts of this role.

Looking ahead to next year, I’m super excited about what’s to come. We’re expanding our educational offerings - from hands-on workshops to industry learning sessions, ensuring our members have even more access to the knowledge, tools and connections they need to grow. 📖👗📐

Thank you to the incredible board, I’ve had the privilege to work alongside, Batul Sadiq, Shelby Evans, Kendra E, Dominique Bercy & Tiffany Green-Williams, Your passion, generosity and leadership continue to inspire me in every single interaction. Here’s to another year of learning, building and shaping the future of fashion in Washington DC together.
