Cape Horn Quilters comfort quilts that we've got ready to gift to who ever may need some love and comfort in their lives. Charity quilts have been my focus lately, and I have a great group of helpers ironing, cutting and piecing. I love practicing my new quilting designs on these quilts.

Some of my favorite quilts started out with a pre printed panel, a big chunk of the quilt is all ready done for you. This is one I sent my daughter who lives in Alaska. I have several more panels that I'm going to be working on in the next few weeks so stay tuned for the progress and a small description of the process I use.

Today is somewhat of a heavy rain day so no long arm quilting for me. Instead I’m having fun playing with these fun witches and trying to decide on which lay out I want. The pattern came from the 1998 October edition of McCall’s quilting magazine. I opted to not use their traditional nine block layout, The rebel in me usually likes to change things up a bit! I just think these little witches are so cute!!!

My latest project is complete just in time for fall. I decided to put this quilt on my table. With all the kids gone we don't eat much at this table so the quilt won't get too messy! I love decorating with quilts. Now I need to get busy on a Christmas one for this table, this could be the start of trend. I'll need one for spring and summer, and fourth of July, geesh I'm going to be busy!!

Well it must be official I bought Pumpkin Spice creamer (although I don’t love it) but the changing of the season has inspired me to dig out the fall colors. These are two mini quilts for decorating. I still need to quilt the Log Cabin one. Both were made from scraps in my stash. Next on deck is Bonnie Hunters new Appalachian Autumn quilt. Happy Fall ya’ll What have you been working on for fall decorating or beyond?

Well I finally finished one of my oldest UFO's, I think this one might be from 2005. I'm so happy I got it to this point. All of the fabrics in this quilt came from my stash which really didn't make a big dent and It still needs quilted. The pattern is called Grandmothers Dream but I couldn't find the pattern for purchase. My friend Judy made this quilt in a class in Arizona years ago. It's made with 2" cut strips and pieced very similar to a bargello. I love the luminosity this quilt seems to have.

The sunshine and sizzling hot temperatures we had this week inspired me to design a new Mini quilt. I originally used fall colors in the design but these fabrics represented more of a summer feel. I’m thinking about calling it Citrus Mix. It does remind me of lemons, limes, and oranges. But then the blocks loosely resembled leaves, what do ya’ll think?

So I have a question for ya’ll. I’m curious how many of you have gone down this rabbit hole? While I was re organizing my studio closet I found two shoe boxes that were unmarked, they were Homespun fabrics. I realized I hadn’t kept any quilts I made using these fabrics so I thought I’d make something simple with them. My plan was to make some house blocks using homespun and mixing them with modern fabrics. Got the quilt drafted using EQ software, then decided to make just one block to test the rotary cutting I drafted. Works out good so my next plan was to make just one block per day because I told myself I wasn’t starting any new project until more of my UFO’s were done. Me: after all one block a day isn’t really starting something new, it’s just killing an hour in the morning before I start my day. Well that was four days ago and yikes I couldn’t stop and this is what I have so far!

This is my newest mini quilt design. I am trying to thin down some of the Civil War reproduction fabrics I discovered while cleaning out the closet! I’ve heard this fabric is making a bit of a come back, Yes I’m well prepared for that!

I spent last Sunday doing a Quarantine Quilt Along from Gundri at GE Designs. I had a blast working on the pattern Elvira, managed to get it pieced, quilted, and bound. This is the result, I think it's perfect for Spring.
