This Indigo Bunting sculpture just sold. I sculpted the bird and branch and Beth made the jar. Many of you know that I’m into birding. Right now we are in Ecuador, traveling and birding. Here are a few shots I’ve gotten of some more blue birds. They are Golden-naped Tanager, Blue-capped Tanager, Blue-tailed Trogon, Turquoise Jay, and Masked Flowerpiercer. While we are away Meg and Mallory are keeping the shop open regular hours.

Rob’s first slab-built piece, made in 1977. Inspired by a photo demo on how to design and build a slab pot by Tyrone and Julie Larson in the Penland School of Crafts; Book of Pottery. From that demo, Rob made the box and then Rob Sr. threw the collar and lid. The second photo shows Rob Jr. and Bet working in the basement studio on Highway 21 in Sparta. The piece is sitting to the left.

Bet Mangum, Rob’s mom, working in her studio in the basement of the house at Turkey K**b. That basement functioned as the studio from when we moved into the house in ‘78 until the studio was built in ‘82. Bet’s passion for making pottery was and still is an inspiration for continued growth.
