This Great Room is the center of family life during visits to this beautiful hillside house. The fireplace is the centerpiece - it runs down into the lower level’s screened porch and is visible from the exterior.

We thoughtfully mixed antique, new, and custom furnishings into the room, even down to the accessories. I found several pieces at local antique markets during my site visit trips up to VT. The combination makes for a warm, layered space that will continue to look better with time & patina.

Happy anniversary to my husband, Chris, who is the anchor of our family. I like to joke he’s the Opaline team member no one sees. He is always behind the scenes encouraging and lifting me up - and without his steadfast support running this studio wouldn’t be possible. We’re in the thick of it with really young kids; he makes it fun even when we’re locked inside wiping noses and waking up every two hours. He jumps in at a moments notice when life throws us a curveball, allowing me to be present for our clients & projects.

He always sees the bright side, a glass half full kind of guy and those who know him have come to expect pretty bad dad jokes, so bad that they actually illicit a chuckle. 😉

I’m most proud of our blended family - his son and our two daughters, who make our lives complete.

First pic of us at our wedding 7 years ago in KPT, Maine and second is of our family this summer.

We installed a sweet girl’s bedroom yesterday and this is her gorgeous ensuite bathroom (later to act as a guest bath). A few close ups from our visit, still waiting on shower glass!

I say this often, but to me the magic is the mix of classic materials with a twist. The main floor tile is unexpected but the whimsy lifts all the other timeless elements.

I love working with tile - there are so many varieties and ways to make art with it. Of course, there is also a lot to know in terms of materiality, durability, longevity, and best use cases. When we find the perfect selection that meets our project’s functional requirements it always feels exciting. Seeing it laid and grouted it also one of my favorite parts of the construction process (it also means we’re getting close to the finish line!).

Fun examples here from past projects… and so many special installs in store in the coming months.

September - always a favorite. This year, busy as ever with back-to-school, fall festivities, endless calendar commitments, site visits, our team trip, new client onboarding, sourcing, budgeting and scope edits, our first colds of the season (sighhh, it begins), and celebrating another trip around the sun.

We hung more of our art collection at our new-ish home this past weekend wow what a difference it makes!

I always advocate for mixing in pieces you’ve collected over time that carry a memory with new. Adding to your collection when furnishing a new home can hold great meaning, commemorating the experience and your family’s place in time.

Swipe to see the before ➡️

This transformation is much more than meets the eye. It involves so much re-work, starting with a new structural support beam to improve flow and to allow for the built-in refrigerator.

The end result is a reflection of our clients’ cheerful personalities, love of the Mediterranean, and enthusiasm for cooking.
