We love designing custom, functional millwork that looks like furniture. We rendered these American walnut vanities in 3D and presented them to our clients. We then drew them as part of our construction documents for our builder. Our builder and millworker developed shop drawings for our review and we made minor modifications based on site conditions, always keeping the design intent intact. I love seeing this process unfold, it always feels surreal to see our designs come to life no matter how many years go by.

“The best way to design color palettes that work across day and night is to think of your home as a whole. ‘I set a vision and concept for the entire home, and then decide on a palette for each room that is dependent on the house, the function of the room, and the overall design direction,’ Gabrielle explains.

By doing so, it can help each room within your home to feel connected rather than random. ‘A whole home palette should ensure the colors relate and flow from room to room, with the colors complementing each other and the overall design story,’ adds Gabrielle.”

A peaceful guest bedroom with a soft palette and a mix of luxurious materials. We reupholstered our clients’ existing chair and ottoman to give them new life.

Our clients asked for this family room to be bright, light, and extremely comfortable for daily life and large gatherings. They often entertain friends and family on weekends so it had to be refined enough for hosting. As the kids’ main hang-out space, it also had to feel informal and casual.

What you don’t see is that we reconfigured the room entirely to make seating large groups possible. We closed off an extra entrance into the dining room and added in a built in media unit with shelving, storage, and space for a large screen tv that you don’t see until you enter the room and turn (before the tv was in the window corner blocking views and light). This allowed us to install a large sectional, a back console with extra moveable seats for game nights, two swivels by the fireplace, and custom floor cushions that sit under the coffee table when not in use. We were able to keep the beautiful two story fireplace as the main visual focal point which was important to us.

A throwback to one of the first rooms we shot when I started Opaline. This is a special place made more special by the pieces in it.

The solid wood table was custom made in Maine for the room and has two leaves that can be easily installed for additional seating. Each chair, also crafted from solid wood, is upholstered a different fabric. The silk and wool rug glows a little in the light. And our clients’ colorful glass collection fills the built-in corner cabinets (one on each side of the room).

The result is one-of-a-kind which is what your home should be.
