I do hope you experience this for yourself - there is a delight and surprise in the novelty of the moment accompanied by Beethovens Ninth symphony

The building is unlike anything I have seen before. You experience the restraint

The decoration is intentional. You can truly focus on it without the chaos or over indulgence of buildings from the neoclassical period
Every detail is considered and precise

I was advised to walk around it - unlike other art centers
It completes the thought process inside and out

I couldn’t help but feel truly emotional. The power of art and connection is vital to the human experience

Measured and whimsical decoration- a truly delightful experience

Handcrafted

Infusing a space with hand made objects is a core part of our intuitive approach which we don’t often talk about.

I grew up in a time and place where mass production wasn’t a consideration in the creative world. Not because it wasn’t available, but because we always thought about the agency of the craftsman, the need to support their unique ability to hand make an object, keep the craft alive, the impact it has to the maker, his family and his community.

The beauty I find is in each object having its own presence just like a human being. No two are alike and nor should they be.

As we enter this new world of AI, it’s important to consider life cycles and impact. I wish we could do that every decision we make when we create.

Patina

It’s just a fancy word for nostalgia captured in an element. Layers of life that you can’t pin point or explain.

As I observe the current design world….It’s a mix of people yearning to recreate nostalgic memories or an ode to hyper futurism.
It probably reflects the need of the hour… an escape from the present.. which almost feels like a necessary survival tool.

Sometimes you walk into a room and you think. Wow.. what’s going on with the windows!! Where will the bed go?

Some windows are behind beds, often at different sill heights and can ruin the vibe with contrasting mullions all over the beautiful landscape outside.

To create a vibe in this bedroom - we had to camouflage the windows when we needed that cocoon like feeling.

The plan involved creating splits in the drapery panels where we wanted the light to come in. The drapery we selected is a beautiful linen gauze.
When the blackout shades are down… you don’t see the backlit drapery and instead a beautiful flowy textural backdrop for the bedroom.

On the floor we have a textural alpaca and silk rug. It contrast the leather headboard and gauzy drapery while we kept the palette very tone on tone.
