Like last year, I was caught off guard by the first frost. Saturday had the potential, so I covered everything and woke up to a crisp morning with no frost. Sunday night was a bit warmer, and yet somehow, we got a light frost. The damage is just beginning to show, and so we are finished for the season and I’ll enjoy the last remaining blooms on my own table. Thanks for a wonderful season!

Something that I look forward to each season is choosing new plants to trial on the farm. It’s fun to experiment with new textures, fragrances, and looks, and I love sharing the best ones with you!

One of this year’s new additions is sweet Annie! She’s a fast grower (at 7 ft. tall!) but took her time coming into her full glory with blooms. She has finally arrived, and I love her!

Sweet Annie adds sparkle to bouquets with little yellow flowers that look like miniature seed heads, and she’s beautifully fragrant! I just learned that in colonial times, homemakers would put branches of sweet Annie under their rugs to fragrance their homes. Pictured is sweet Annie with a couple stems of blue salvia.

Getting lost in the garden…literally! The flowers are growing like weeds, and actually, so are the WEEDS! 🫣I think the celosia and mahogany splendor are pushing 7 1/2 feet tall now, and the zinnias are just shy of that. It’s a jungle in here, but I’m still harvesting beautiful late summer flowers!
