I can't tell you how many people aaid something like, "Nice. But why spiders?" as I painted this. Lol. It gives everyone the heebie jeebies a bit.

I painted them because they creep me out and I wish they didn't so much. Tarantulas don't bother me, I've held them. But house spiders are another story. Anyhoo, painting them did ease my fear of them. A little. Especially after I gave each spider a name. 😅

I may add more to this piece in the future. But today was the last day of class and I'm happy how I ended it for now.

Tribute to the one and only Divine.

13x20" acrylic paint on cardboard

This took about 7 hours. I absolutely love how it turned out! It was initially going to be much more loose and expressionistic, but with makeup and lips like that, I had to put it the extra details. And I added my own flare, because I love me some epic wing eyeliner.

My final for gesture drawing. Charcoal self portrait. Plus progress pics. Had to take pics at 1 minute, 3 minute, 5 minute, 20 minutes, then the final stage took about 4 hours.

My final project for beginning painting at Mt Sac! It started as a collage exercise using lots of magazine and photo clippings. Then we turned it into an acrylic painting on 18x24 Bristol paper. Mine is heavily inspired by vintage classic horror movie posters. (Collage of images at the end of this slideshow).

The theme is based on my experiences lately being at the mercy of doctors and feeling like I'm being treated like a science experiment instead of a person. It can sometimes feel like a horror show.
