Showing Up at the Page again! This time it’s to sketch a photo of Kevan Johnson-Day in France’s course. It definitely took me a lot more than 20 minutes, but I kept showing up for days! Also this time I’m using a Polychromos colored pencil instead of ballpoint. It made sketching a human face a bit less daunting.

I am starting to understand why France says that drawing faster is better. Going too slow can make me want to do it perfectly. Speed brings spontaneity and connection of pen to paper. And that’s what it means or show up at the page. I didn’t show up to be perfect, to be a realist. I showed up to see what it would be like. And the experience of just DOING it.

The last of the 3 prairie dogs, ground hogs, squirrels or whatever! The point is showing up at the page, spending no more than 20 minutes just to do it and not to be “too precious” about it. I am finding the freedom in that. I’ll save the perfectionism for the slow-motion colored pencils.
