My collection on my mantle. I’ve been collecting his original pottery for over 20 years after discovering some of his hand painted tiles in the legendary restaurant Scandia in West Hollywood that I did an Oscar event at. Bjorn Wiinblad was a big inspiration for . These are all original pieces from his studio in Denmark. Several of them signed by him (the others done by artisans in his studio). In 1954 he was discovered by Stanley Marcus who commissioned him to do illustrations for . Mr Wiinblad also did all the illustrations for Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen which was Walt Disney’s biggest inspiration for ! Also a huge inspiration for Mary Blair and her original design of It’s A Small World. You can still tour his home “the blue house” near Copenhagen. He died in 2006 at 87 shortly after I started collecting his work. Sadly his studio ceased all original pottery production in 2010. These whimsical pieces still bring me so much joy after all these years!

Dorothy Draper’s iconic designs! The woman who single handedly revolutionized interior design in the early 20th century. Everything you see was done prior to 1960, withstanding the test of time for over 65 years!
She had quite the provenance making her association to wealth a leg up on the client list. She was cousins with Eleanor Roosevelt as well as groundbreaking interior designer in her own right, Sister Parish. Her work continues to inspire and bring smiles! Enjoy this carousel of color!

Messing around with some bathroom conversion designs at the Bel Air project we were working on. The second picture is the room that used to be an awkward office you could only access through a guest room. Turning it into an en suite makes much more sense for this family.
We use these concepts as an initial road map, but with details as the project progresses they inevitably turn out 💯 times better than the concept designs. Quick initial sketches get the ball rolling. Scale needs to be adjusted and so forth.
For instance the back wall where the window is needs to be knocked out to see what we are dealing with since it is against a pitched mansard roof.

As we close out Black History Month I wanted to once again pay tribute to one of my all time favorite architects Paul Revere Williams with this stunning Mediterranean extravaganza in La Canada Flintridge! Paul Williams designed over 300 properties in La Canada Flintridge and it is probably one of the most magical neighborhoods in Los Angeles as is this home. While visiting clients there this week I stopped by as I do every time I’m in the area. The whimsical twists and turns, the thrilling varied elevations and the thoughtful creativity all make this property stir your curiosities. It excites me every single time. What a gift! 💝
