Winter’s Calling art…not just for Christmas! ❄️

For this project, I started with the shadow-box side of an IOD Gallery Blanks and created a layered, aged background using Sweet Pickins Milk Paint in Juniper and Prosper.

Once I had the background looking textured and aged, I started working with the new IOD Winter’s Calling Transfer—but instead of using the transfer exactly as it comes, I cut apart birds, botanicals, greenery and other elements from several different sections and layered them together to create an entirely new composition.

I added bits of vintage lettering with the IOD Ephemeral Type Stamp, then moved on to the frame. And that ornate-looking frame? I added Air Dry Clay castings from the IOD Trimmings I Mould to give it that vintage character.

Then it was back to the artwork for even more aging with Dark & Decrepit, two-step crackle and dark wax. I finished the frame with aged bronze details to bring out all of that beautiful texture.

I love how this one turned out! Even though Winter’s Calling was part of the IOD Christmas release, all of the birds, botanicals and vintage details made this perfect for Vintage Winter Art—something I could leave out all winter long.

When I looked at the cornucopia in the IOD Cornucopias Mould, I saw a pumpkin stem! 🎃🍂 I couldn’t wait to try it on a plain papier-mâché pumpkin.

My favorite crafters in the shop don’t come in with great expectations; share all of their ideas and joy while creating; and are proud of what they made when they are done! We can all learn a lesson while crafting with kids and it’s even better when the laughs and smiles are with your grandkids!

This one is all about the details. ☺️

I used the beautiful IOD Winter’s Calling Transfer to transform this piece into something that feels like a timeworn vintage Christmas/winter print — complete with winter birds, evergreen branches, old postage marks and that gorgeous aged, crackled finish.

And that ornate frame might just be my favorite finishing touch. 😍

❄️ Three projects… One beautiful new IOD Transfer! ❄️

I’ve been having so much fun creating with the brand new IOD Winter’s Calling Transfer, and these are the first three projects I’ve completed with it! From vintage-inspired wood slice ornaments to a timeless framed piece and a cozy Christmas tree sign, this transfer has so many gorgeous birds, florals, vintage ephemera, and festive details to mix and match.
