We have WiFi, a coffee pot, drinking water, a washer and dryer, and a semi-indifferent shop cat if you need a little comfort. A new display & little homage to the motherland. I’m very proud to be a 4th generation plant grower. My grandparents came from Ridderkerk, Netherlands to Ellis Island with 3 kids (at the time) and $6 first in 1948. My mother lived in 3 countries and countless states before meeting my father while her family was building a greenhouse in Illinois. My uncle, Neil van Wingerden, began a tomato production greenhouse in 1979 in Westfield, IN. My parents took over in 1984 and have been growing flowers for the Midwest ever since. We have a very large extended Dutch family who mostly work in the plant industry in some fashion all over the USA today.

I’ve been lucky enough to “grow up greenhouse” as we say. It is humbling and so rewarding to share our passion for plants with all of you. So if you have ever wondered how Root 31 came to be in central Indiana, it immigrated here. 🌷
