Another look at our Wilton kitchen, which pairs a slab backsplash behind the range with a wallpaper the homeowner picked out. That mix is what makes this space so personal.

Blue shaker cabinetry, flush inset, with brass hardware, white cone pendants over the island, and a stone herringbone backsplash in crème, blue and white behind the range. ✨

A first look at our Transitional in Blue project in Darien, CT. There’s a lot more of it to come.

We designed this kitchen back in 2018 and it’s still as beautiful today as the day it was installed.

Reclaimed wood beams stretch overhead, white subway tile runs the full length of the range wall, and the cabinetry sits in a dark, near-black tone that hasn’t dated a bit. One end of the room is a full wall of floor-to-ceiling storage; the other skips upper cabinets altogether, leaving the range wall open with the tile running straight up to the beam.

Good materials and a layout that actually works don’t go out of style. Eight years on, this one still holds up.

Design + Decor said it better than we would have: “While renovations celebrate transformation, custom homes celebrate possibility.”

Two islands, each with its own job. Cooking and prep on one, homework and casual dinners and everyone who wanders in on the other. A custom table alongside seats ten.

The backsplash is a single slab that runs the full width behind the cooktop, and the blue and gray veining steals the show. Above it a custom hood in rift-cut white oak, the same warmth that turns up again on the glass-front uppers. Everything else is Decorator White, flush inset, with understated hardware.

The full story is in the Design + Decor July/August issue.

Huge thank you to Design + Decor for featuring this Westport kitchen, and to the whole team behind it.

It’s a custom house, built from the ground up, so nothing in this kitchen had to work around anything that was already there. That only works when everyone is involved early — kitchen designer, architectural designer, interior designer, builder, making decisions together before a wall went up. Two islands with separate jobs, a custom table that seats ten, and a great deal of planning you’d never notice unless someone pointed it out.

More on the kitchen itself later this week.

You’ve seen a glimpse - here’s the whole room. What began as a spec house quickly became something far more personal.

Light, wood-grain cabinetry sets an easy, natural tone, its clean slab fronts kept full-overlay for one uninterrupted line. Metal-framed glass uppers add a crisp, tailored edge and put everyday pieces on quiet display. At the center, a Taj Mahal quartzite island anchors the room - a generous two- inch top with a waterfall edge.sculptural pendants and a row of leather counter stools soften the palette and invite everyone to linger.
