Staff Spotlight: Taylor Starbird

Taylor joined Studio Nexus in the Fall of 2023, bringing seven years of experience in design, construction documentation, construction administration and project management. The straightforward way to describe him is architectural designer, but ultimately he is much more than that. He is passionate about hands-on building, sustainability, efficiency, and design influenced by nature. With a background in architecture and experience in a production shop environment, he brings a unique blend of creativity and practical knowledge to his work. Taylor strives to create environmentally conscious designs that integrate with their surroundings, prioritizing energy efficiency, and utilizing local and sustainable materials.

At Studio Nexus, Taylor is project manager and designer for the firm’s largest project--the redevelopment of a 130,000 SF historic high school--shepherding a large team of consultants through the highly complex design and construction documents, and providing construction administration as the building transforms into housing, government, commercial and recreation space.

Taylor received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Keene State College where he was awarded the “Bruce Levine Mellion ’69 TDS Experience Award for Excellence in Architecture. An internship abroad in Kigali, Rwanda enhanced his technical skills and made a positive impact on the built and natural environment. An eagle scout and resident of Tunbridge, Vermont, Taylor enjoys the outdoors and is an avid soccer player.

For the first time, Quechee Fire Station 2 will house both a fire truck and an ambulance, each staffed by two firefighters 24/7. Studio Nexus Architects designed this energy-efficient, 3,102-square-foot expansion, which includes living quarters for up to four firefighters, showers, a kitchen, a gym, and workspaces for Fire Department staff, along with an office for Hartford Police Department personnel.

Staff Spotlight: Jon Criswell

Jon joined Studio Nexus in Summer of 2024. Bringing 20+ years of experience ranging from high-end residential design, off-site design & fabrication, timber framing, conventional framing, furniture building, architectural millwork, and metal fabrication. Jon has been a long-time champion of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and has been responsible for integrating Revit into multiple firms. His varied skills from hand drawing and SketchUp to Revit and Enscape help to thoughtfully develop and detail buildings throughout the design process. Jon first crossed paths with Jim and Doug when they worked for the same architectural firm many years ago and is excited to be working with them again contributing to socially responsible buildings in the Upper Valley.

He received a Bachelors in Environmental Design and Masters in Architecture from Montana State University and is a licensed Architect in the state of NH.

Out of the office Jon enjoys riding bikes of all kinds, skiing in the winter, canoeing on local waterways, being goofy with his daughter, and gradually making progress on various home improvement projects.
