Hello Flower Friends! I've been away from this page for a long time, transitioning away from flower farming. But that doesn't mean I've given up my sustainable pursuits; in fact, I've dived in deeper. So I'm going to use this page to promote nature and sustainability in all its various forms. If you bought flowers from me or attended one of my classes, you are likely interested in these subjects as well. Enjoy!

Just one day after the 49th, I have the 50th butterfly I've ID-ed on our property. Please welcome Juvenal's Duskywing to the pantheon of of all things lepidoptera at Whites Creek Flower Farm!

Today ID-ed my 49th butterfly to visit Whites Creek Flower Farm. I've been looking for this one for years now and had almost given up hope, when today it fluttered up in front of me, right in front of our house! And for you Hackberry haters out there, this gorgeous butterfly uses Hackberry trees as host plants. They nectar on the fresh spring sap that is now rising. What a happy sign of spring and a confirmation of the way we've decided to manage our property here.

Transplanting these beauties (hellebores, or Lenten rose) up around the house so I can enjoy them there. 40 more to go, haha! Really kinda happy I won’t be cutting the blooms for bouquets any more. I can just enjoy them in their natural environment.

Hello Flower Friends!

Even though I'm not actively growing commercial cut flowers anymore, I am going to use this page to promote interesting tidbits about ecology and gardening.

Soon I also plan to start posting about turning the former cut flower farm into a native species sanctuary.

Wildflower walk at the Fontanel, June 22: native bee balm (Monarda fistula), common milkweed (Asclpeias syriaca), and American gerrymander (Teucrium canadense). It was a very pink day for wildflowers, haha!

Came home from my trip out west (will be posting so many wild flower pics soon!)to these gorgeous yellow callas in bloom. They've been in the ground 3 years and are finally REALLY producing! I guess they have appreciated my neglect!
