When we first bought this house, the kitchen was my least favorite room. It was dark, dated, and full of odd choices from the 80s. Laminate cabinet doors, mismatched finishes, and a bulky old range hood that felt more industrial than cozy. So my very first project was painting and wallpapering, just to soften things up and make it feel a little more like home.

My husband built the inset cabinet doors by hand to replace the old laminate ones. They feel sweet and simple, like something this 1920s bungalow might have had originally. He also built the range hood, replacing the old one with something warm and quiet that blends right in.

I found a vintage-style doorbell on Amazon and gave it a new life with satin brass spray paint. It’s the tiniest detail, but I smile every time I see it.

My spice shelf keeps everything tidy and within easy reach when I’m cooking. And the nursery shelves I stained and hung now hold my platters and cutting boards, turning storage into something beautiful.

The wall color is “Foggy London” by It is a moody gray that gives the room a cozy calm. And the satin brass cabinet handles from Amazon tie it all together.

This kitchen isn’t fancy or flashy, but it feels like us. A little vintage, a little handmade, a little bit of story in every corner.
