Our Story

Artistic Angles got its start following my 11-1/2 years managing the frame department at a well-known big-box arts and crafts chain. I was tired of being limited to certain products in the ways I could help my clients, and the constant training and turnover of shop employees, so when I heard the retiring owner of another longtime local shop was selling off his remaining fixtures and equipment, I jumped at the chance to strike out on my own. Bought up his stuff and put it in storage for a few months while I devised an exit strategy and business plan, sought startup advice and funding, and opened shop in December of 2001 in Derby, KS.

After fifteen years catering to the clientele of Derby and other surrounding outlying towns as the only frame shop in this suburban town south of Wichita, weathering both the post-09/11 and the 2008 recession’s effects on the local aircraft industry-influenced economy, the arrival of rival company Hobby Lobby in 2015 with the building of a brand new store in Derby cut deeply into my business revenue, and I found myself pondering my next move when my landlord sold the property I was leasing and my lease was not renewed. Decided it was time for a change and looked north. With the help of a good friend with real estate connections in urban Wichita, and the surfacing of an exciting opportunity to move to a beloved historic neighborhood there, I relocated the shop in January of 2017, re-branded the business, and am now happily embracing Wichita’s nostalgic Riverside neighborhood, along with the arts-friendly demographic I have found there. We continue to be grateful for all of our clients near and far, current and former, and are excited to serve those in need of our framing services. THANKS, Derby and Riverside, for 17 great years; looking forward to many more.

We are a full-service custom frame shop and handle most types of artwork and object framing; we specialize in needlework, object and archival mounting and framing. We carry a broad range of top quality mat, moulding and glass options, together with 29 years’ experience designing and executing quality frame jobs.

We are open Tuesday through Friday 10:30am-5:30pm, Saturdays 10:30-3, and Sundays and Mondays by appointment. We are also available outside regular business hours by appointment; due to my ongoing hearing rehabilitation with cochlear implants, please message here, email, or call and leave a message.
