No one talks about 8.
Because it’s that awkward age where your child is not quite a tween,
but no longer little.
8 is being sweet one moment and giving you sass the next.
8 is wanting to be a grown-up but needing a hug.
8 means more emotional challenges and less physical challenges.
8 is being so mature, taking care of a younger sibling, and then having a toddler tantrum when struggling with homework.
8 is smiling, seeing her playing dolls with a friend, and the next minute, your mouth drops wide open, watching her shake her hips to Shakira.
8 is watching your tall and lanky boy on the basketball court and doing a double take, "When did he get so big?"
8 is halfway to driving, and from the newborn, you held in your arms.
8 is two years from double digits.
8 is needing you and pushing you away.
8 is stubborn.
8 is kind.
8 is smart.
8 is learning.
8 is creative.
This in-between age is a blessing:
