The Farmer's Daughter

The Farmer's Daughter Hand dyed wool for rug hooking and wool projects. Etsy: FarmersDaughterWool My "farm" days are over so I have turned to working with wool.

From my childhood days of raising orphaned lambs on the farm, sheep are one of my favorite farm animals. In my kitchen I have been "cooking up" some beautiful colors of wool for my own rug hooking and wool projects. Now I am sharing them with you!

Hooking is complete on my Caraway Rug Camp project with teacher Jeanne Benjamin. On to binding using Cindi Gay’s forward fold finish. Pattern is “Boston” by Anne Bond. The majority of this rug uses my own hand dyed wools with a few accent pieces from others.

I’m going old school today. We are now residing part time at an alternate location and I had to set up a sewing, rug hooking, appliqué room. Of course this required another sewing machine. I was lucky enough to find this 1970’s Bernina 830 Record. This is the same model machine that I purchased at 16 years old with all my life savings. I traded that machine in 20 years later to upgrade to another Bernina but have missed that little Record ever since. When our local quilt shop was going out of business, I called and asked if they had any used Bernina’s and sure enough this was the last Bernina they had...and exactly what I wanted. It’s running great and purring like a kitten...a true workhorse! I’m happy it found it’s home with me!!

Lil Wooly Baskets by Dawn Heese, is finally quilted and ready to be bound tonight. It’s a small quilt 24” by 30”. It’s been pinned on my long arm patiently waiting for 2 months. This was a free monthly sew along several years ago using fabric and wool from my stash. Love projects that use what I already have on the shelf!
