Lifelong learning and professional growth are cultural cornerstones at GuernseyTingle, which is why we were excited to welcome Architectural Designer Jacob Barton and Virginia Tech School of Architecture Professor Bobby Vance for a presentation on the university’s FutureHAUS project.

Jacob is currently pursuing his Master of Architecture degree at Virginia Tech while serving as a Graduate Assistant under Professor Vance. As part of the CoreHAUS project team, Jacob is helping advance innovative approaches to modular, high-performance housing through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Housing Innovation Challenge. The Virginia Tech team is one of just 10 academic teams nationwide selected to move into the build phase of the competition.

During the presentation, Jacob and Professor Vance shared insights into the design, fabrication and construction strategies behind the project, as well as the collaborative process that is bringing these ideas to life.

We are proud to support Jacob as he continues to expand his expertise and contribute to cutting-edge research that is helping shape the future of housing. Thank you to Jacob and Professor Vance for sharing your knowledge and inspiring our team!

The future of design is in good hands.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting an immersive design workshop for students and teachers from Newport News Public Schools’ Career & Technical Education program. After touring our workspace and learning more about careers in architecture and interior design, students tackled a hands-on design challenge that encouraged them to think creatively about how spaces can serve the people who use them.

Working alongside members of our team, students developed concepts, drafted layouts, and curated interior mood boards to bring their ideas to life. We were impressed by their creativity, enthusiasm, and willingness to explore new ideas.

We look forward to seeing their final presentations and the unique spaces they envision. Thank you to Newport News Public Schools for partnering with us to help inspire the next generation of designers!
