Kermanshah Rugs: The Story Behind Them

Oddly enough, Kermanshah rugs weren’t woven in the town of Kermanshah. So how did they acquire the name “Kermanshah” if they weren’t woven in that province?

These ornate and often palace-sized rugs were actually woven in the city of Kerman. The reason that “Shah” was added to it was due the fact that these types of rugs were generally woven for the Shah of Iran’s large palaces - giving it the name “Kermanshah”.
